The moment hit Virat like a wave. His heart clenched, and the irritation he'd felt earlier instantly dissolved. He knelt down and without a second thought, scooped Ved into his arms, lifting him gently.

As he was sitting on the chair, he positioned Ved on his lap, facing him, with Ved's small legs on either side. His little boy was still padded up, the oversized equipment making him look even smaller in Virat’s strong arms.

Gently, Virat removed Ved’s helmet, setting it down beside them. He wiped the sweat from Ved’s forehead with the towel he had over his shoulder, his touch soft and full of love. After wiping his face, he leaned in and pressed a kiss on Ved’s cheeks, the way he used to when Ved was even smaller and seeking comfort.

"The baby will be fine, Vedy. You don't have to worry about that, We’re all taking care, right? Mama's happy and resting" Virat said, his voice tender and reassuring, hoping to calm the storm of concern in his son’s heart.

Ved’s big brown eyes stared into his father’s, still holding onto the weight of uncertainty.

"But we were there last time too...and the baby..." Ved's voice trailed off, a tiny quiver in his words.

Virat felt a lump in his throat at his son's words. It wasn’t just the memories of their previous loss that tugged at his heart -- it was realizing how deeply Ved had been affected by it too.

He had been younger then, but not too young to understand the sadness that had filled their home. Now, he was old enough to worry about it happening again, and Virat's heart ached to see him carrying such fears.

“Ved,” Virat began softly, holding him a little closer, “don’t be worried, baba. Everything will be fine, okay? It’s not like last time. We’re past that stage -- it’s over five months now. Mumma is happy, right? She’s feeling good. You see that, don’t you?”

Ved nodded slightly, but there was still a flicker of doubt. He looked up again, eyes full of innocence and concern.

"Aren’t you scared, Papa?" he asked, his voice so small yet so heavy with meaning.

Virat was caught off guard by the question. His own fears were always there, lurking in the back of his mind. He hadn’t shared them with anyone, especially not Ved. He had worked hard to push them down, to stay positive for Anushka, and for Ved’s sake.

But hearing his son ask this made his throat tighten. What could he say? He couldn’t lie to his son, but he also didn’t want to burden him with the weight of his own worries.

After a brief pause, Virat took a deep breath and smiled, brushing a hand through Ved’s hair.

“No, baby, I’m not scared. You know why? Because I have a little partner like you helping me take care of Mumma. Last time, you were at boarding school, but now you’re here with us every day. It makes everything so much easier for me. I couldn’t do it without you.” he said gently, his voice steady.

Ved’s face lit up slightly, a small smile forming on his lips. Hearing his father say he wasn’t scared made something in him relax. The fact that he could help, that he was part of this, eased his worries. He smiled wider, feeling proud and reassured.

“I help you?” Ved asked, his voice a little stronger now.

“Of course, you do,” Virat said, his smile growing as well. “You’ve been a great help, Vedy. Mumma loves having you around, and so do I. We’re a team, right?”
