"I don’t want this, Virat.”
Her words cut through the room like a knife, and Virat’s smile quickly faded. He had bought it with so much love.

He thought they had come to an understanding yesterday. He thought this would make her happy.
"You may return it" she said in a low voice and kept it in his stiff hands. She didn't look up to his face to notice how pissed off he was.
The box was placed in Virat's cold hands, its weight far heavier than the simple jewelry inside. Without giving it a second thought, a surge of frustration bubbled up inside him.
And before he could control it, he yeeted the box across the room. It flew to the corner, crashing against the wall, its contents spilling slightly. The necklace gleamed from where it landed, as though mocking the tension that had erupted between them.
Anushka’s heart nearly stopped. She stared at the necklace, her mind racing, unable to process what had just happened. Virat had never been this angry, not with her, not like this.
Her gaze slowly shifted from the necklace to Virat’s face, and for the first time, she saw just how deeply she had hurt him. His jaw was clenched, his eyes dark with anger and something else -- betrayal.
"I'm not returning shit!" he snapped, his voice cold and biting, sending a chill through her. "You return it if you want, or just throw it in the garbage, I don't care ! "
Without waiting for a response, he stormed out of the room, leaving Anushka sitting in stunned silence. Her heart pounded in her chest, her palms damp with sweat. She hadn’t heard that tone from him in such a long time, and now it echoed in her ears, loud and hurtful.
Her eyes drifted back to the necklace, lying in the corner, half out of its box, as if pleading to be picked up. A wave of guilt surged through her. It wasn’t just a necklace. It was a symbol of his love, his care, and she had dismissed it so thoughtlessly. That’s what he must’ve felt when she denied it -- like she was rejecting his love.
She slowly got up from the bed, her body feeling heavy and fatigued. As she bent down to pick up the box, her hand trembled slightly.
She carefully placed the necklace back into its proper place, her fingers running over the delicate stones. It was beautiful, and now, all she could feel was shame for how she had treated not only the necklace but also Virat.
With the box in her hands, she walked quietly out of the room and found him sitting on the couch, his face buried in his phone, scrolling through it in an attempt to distract himself from the argument.
His expression was hard, unbothered by her presence. She sat down beside him, the box resting in her lap. The silence between them was thick, suffocating.
"Sorry," she muttered softly, her voice barely above a whisper. There was a long, painful pause before Virat replied, his tone cold and distant.
"I want the money for this. Transfer it to my account." His eyes didn’t even lift from his phone as he spoke.
Anushka felt her heart sink. His words hit her like a punch in the gut, hollowing her out. Money? That’s what it had come to? This beautiful moment, this gesture of love, had been reduced to a transaction.
