Virat extended Ved's holidays for two more days. As he wanted Ved to be present on this occasion. Whether they win or lose, he wants his family to be there. He didn't want to face him later and then give an explanation.
The night before the finals, the weight of the moment was impossible to ignore. Virat stood on the balcony of their hotel room as he gazed out at the distant lights of the city.
The cool breeze felt good against his skin, but his mind was restless. Tomorrow was everything. the culmination of years of effort, sacrifice, and heartbreak. He couldn't help but feel the pressure mounting.
Ved ran to him and tugged on his pants. Virat carried him and studied his excited and hopeful face as they go into the big day.
"Papa hum jeetenge na?" He asked innocently, full of hope.
"I'll try me best ,Vedy" he said , with a not so confident voice.
"But you have to win" Ved stressed, oblivious of the pressure Virat was already feeling.
He nodded quietly. He didn't want to give anymore false hope to the little child. Anushka stepped quietly onto the balcony, noticing the tension in his posture as he was talking to Ved.
Without saying a word, she gently slid her arms around his, leaning her head against his shoulder. They stood there in silence for a moment, the warmth of her presence easing some of the stress in his chest.
"You're thinking about tomorrow, aren't you?" she asked softly. Her voice was calm and soothing.
"I can't stop thinking about it. Everything's been leading up to this." He nodded, not taking his eyes off the city.
"I know. But I also want you to remember something, you don't have to carry all this weight by yourself. It's just a game, Virat. Even if you lose, it's not the end of the world. I'm still here, right by your side. I always will be." She smiled gently, giving his arm a squeeze.
"It is the end of the world. Hum haar nhi sakte mumma" Ved interfered cutely with a pout, he was serious.
"Ved..., Virat let him go" she knew the kid didn't understand the gravity of the situation, he was unknowingly adding pressure. But Virat wasn't keeping him away from this conversation either.
"Let him be... I know you mean well Anu, but losing... it's not a choice for me. Not this time. If we lose tomorrow, it'll break me. We've come too far. The fans... the team... I don't know how I'll face it if we don't win." He turned his head slightly to look at her, his face tense.
Her words were meant to comfort him, but the thought of losing tightened the knot in his stomach. She looked at him, her expression softening. She could see how much this meant to him, how much he had invested in this moment. She reached up and gently cupped his face, turning him fully toward her.
"I get it, I know how much this means to you. I know how much you've given to this game. But you have to remember something important, you can't control everything by yourself. You can only control how you play, how you approach tomorrow. The rest... it's not in your hands." she said, her voice was steady but filled with love.
"But I need to win this. For the team, for those loyal people... for everything we've worked for all these years. It's more than just a game for me." He sighed, the frustration clear in his eyes.
"Yes papa. We will" Ved talked again.
"Ved.. don't talk in between. Hum baat kar rahe hein na" she warned him. His face withered and he laid down on Virat's shoulders.
