25. HAUNTING NIGHTMARES

Both laid down on the bed. She snuggled close to him and cocooned in his chest like a wanderer rests under the shade of a tree.

Soon both were in deep slumber after a tiring day.

"No.. don't touch me!" Anushka jolted from her sleep in the morning. She looked around and there was no one to be seen. She was sweating profusely even in an air conditioned room.

She looked on the other side of the bed but Virat was not there. Her heart beat started to rise. She was still struggling with the traumatic experience of the day before. She got up from the bed and stood infront of the mirror.

There were faded bruise marks on her jaw and her wrists, she started breathing unevenly. She walked fast and searched all around the house, but Virat was nowhere.

She remembered that he goes to the gym on top of the building which was just one story above their flat. She quickly ran to the gym and saw him working out.

He was lifting weights. She ran towards him and hugged him tightly. He stumbled at first with the weight in his hand. He slowly dropped it on the floor. When he looked at her face, her lips were quivering and she was breathing heavily. His heart sank at the sight.

He slowly caressed her hair "Anu kya hua? Why are you sweating like this, are you fine?" He tried to see her face but she had dug it tightly on his shoulder.

"No....No I'm not fine. Please don't leave me Virat. I'm scared , I wanna be with you" she said sobbing and gasping for air.

He quickly moved apart and looked at her face, it was as if she had seen a ghost. He took the towel near him and wiped her face.

"What happened, what's wrong" he asked again in a concerned tone.

"The nightmares, it's haunting me...I can't" she said huffing looking at him.

"Ok calm down. Everything is fine,ok. I'm with you. Why are you worried? " He asked rubbing her palms in his hands .

"I'll come in 15 minutes, you go and rest, alright?" he said going to pick the weights.

"No. I'll sit here , you finish and we'll go together. It feels so weird there" she said looking down .

He looked at her terrorised state and felt pity, "OK" he whispered and resumed his work out .

As he was working out, he kept an eye on her. She was fiddling with her fingers and was looking around nervously. He had never seen her so nervous and helpless before. He kept thinking what he could do. He finished his work out and held her hand guiding her to the room.

They both had breakfast. Virat noticed that she was following him wherever he went. When he went to get something from the room, she goes behind . When he goes to the balcony, she would be there behind him.

Then he decided to settle in the sofa itself. She came and sat beside him. He leaned back on the sofa placing his head on the handrest and legs on the other side. She kept staring at him with her innocent eyes.

He gestured her to lean on him by tapping on his chest. She quickly climbed on him with a smile and placed her head on his chest wrapping her arms around him. In no time, she was asleep.

He kept staring at her. He had a light smile on his face. Even after what happened last night, she looked in peace when her eyes were closed and pressed on to his chest. Her lips formed a pout and he couldn't resist the urge to kiss.

How did I let you go that day, I could give my life for this beautiful face. He kissed her head and patted on her like he's making her sleep.

It was afternoon and he had an event to attend in the city. He slowly woke her up, but she woke up being startled and started looking around.
