The last month we've spent with the Dursleys has been less than fun. Much less. I suppose at least Dudley's now scared of us. He doesn't pick on Harry, he doesn't try and pull my hair. And Vernon and Petunia act like we're not even there. Like we're invisible, or something. We didn't have to do chores, we weren't yelled at. As Harry told me, it's an improvement. And it was at first - but then it quite quickly got depressing, only having one person to communicate with. And by communicate, I mean literally any form of it.
We keep to our room, where our owls sit side by side. At night they go hunting. They come and go as they please. I thought Vernon and Petunia would have complained about that, but from the moment we brought the birds home, it was as if they didn't even exist. Harry and I stay up until late into the night, reading our new school books together. They're interesting - much more interesting than the usual stuff we get at school. I think I'm taking in more than Harry, but we're both extremely excited by the idea of one day applying what we've read.
"How are we getting to Kings Cross tomorrow?" Harry asks. I figure we'll have to ask Vernon. When we do, we get a grunt for a reply. We decide to take it as a yes. "Thank you," Harry says.
"Funny way to go to a wizard school, don't you think?" Vernon speaks - but I can't tell whether he's thinking out loud or speaking directly to us. "Magic carpets all got punctures?" he chuckles. Directly to us, we suppose. "Where is this school anyway?"
Harry and I look at each other. "I don't know," I reply for the both of us. Harry pulls his ticket out of his pocket and we examine it. "Doesn't say," I report. "Just says Platform nine and three quarters, at eleven in the morning."
"Nine and three quarters? There's no such thing," Vernon scoffs.
"Sure there is. There has to be - it says it right here," Harry replies.
"Insane! The lot of them are completely mad. You'll see! You'll see - we'll take you to Kings Cross tomorrow. Only because we need to go to London anyway, mind you," Vernon comments.
"Are you going to the London hospital? To get the tail off of Dudley?" I smirk. Vernon grunts.
Next morning, Harry and I wake up at the crack of dawn - or possibly even earlier -, making sure to double check everything. We have both trunks in the car boot and our owls with us before Dudley has even pulled himself out of his bed. We arrive to the station at half past ten. Vernon chucks our trunks onto a trolley and wheels it up to the station for us. At first I think maybe he's finally, finally being kind. Then I realise his true intentions. He wants to mock us.
"Look. There's ten. There's nine. You're little platform should be somewhere there," he points to the solid brick between them. "But where is it? Hasn't been built yet?" Vernon sneers. I must admit that, for once, he's right. The platform doesn't seem to exist. "Well, have a good term. Goodbye!" he calls, already walking back the way he came, out to his car. Harry and I watch him make his way out of the station, all three Dursleys laughing at us.
Harry and I try to get a passing guard's assistance, but according to him, there's no Hogwarts and Harry and I are trying to cause trouble. We give that up quickly and move away. As we do, a large group pass behind us.
". . . packed with Muggles, of course!" we hear as they pass by us. Picking up on the word 'muggle', we instantly spin around to see who the people are. There was a plump woman speaking to four children. They all had flaming red hair. They also all had trunks in tow - and one even had an owl! They had to be like us - magic, I mean.
Harry and I follow them. We stop behind them and listen to what they're saying. The woman asks "Is the platform still the same?"
The smallest child pipes up, "Yes, mum! Nine and three quarters." She tugs her mum's hand. "Can't I go-"
