He Seems Happy

''ello Lydia!' calls one of the Weasley twins.

'Top of the morning to ya,' I wink.

'To the Great Hall!' the other one holds out his arms in a superhero pose. 'We have to get down there early to see the prank happen! Ohh, I hope we haven't missed it.'

Hermione appears at the bottom of the stairs. 'A prank?' she asks. I nod. 'I'm going to stay here for a while- so I don't get expelled.'

'You know what, Fred?' asks George.

'What George?' replies Fred.

'I'm surprised we weren't expelled in our first week.'

I laugh and grab his arm, tugging him along. I tell them both to hurry up, and soon we're outside the Great Hall. We poke our heads through the door, total Muggle spy movie style, and wait for a teacher to enter.

Snape walks in first, talking to Dumbledore. He walks right into the elaborate set up, the works of the twins and I. He ends up drenched in pumpkin juice and covered in feathers, slipping down a stair or two. We also may, or may not, have caused him to feel slightly sick, by making gross flavoured Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans fall into his mouth. We quickly pull our heads out of the door. 'I swear Dumbledore looked over and winked at us,' laughs one twin as we do a tri-five (obviously a three way high-five). We quickly rush towards the common room.

Three quarters of the way there we hear voices. 'Uh, oh. Percy!' Say the twins, jumping into a small gap off to side of the path, probably only big enough for three small-ish people. I stand in the middle of the path, not sure what to do. Suddenly I feel one twin grab my right arm, the other my left, and they pull me back into the gap.

Fred's hand slips over my mouth. 'Ssh, they're coming.'

Once we see Harry and Ron we slip out of the gap and join them. 'Hey, brother. Morning, Harry.' Fred and George bow as they walk.

'Hey, Lydia. We didn't see you this morning. That Hermione girl said something about wishing she could say she hadn't seen you?' Harry nods in Hermione's direction.

Fred, George and I laugh and exchange a glance. 'Hermioneeeee!' I call and rush over. The twins are telling Harry and Ron about the prank.

Hermione looks at me with a slight grin. 'Those twins have taken a shining to you,' she says. 'Now, are you going to tell what what this prank was, or not?'

I tell her what we did to Snape, and despite herself she starts laughing. 'Oh, and we may- or may not- have run into Draco and his friends- Crabbe and Goyle, I think- last night!' I tell her what happened with them.

She looks at me. She looks away and then to me again. She seems to be thinking, but who really knows. Her brain must have figured whatever it was out, because she gasps then turns to me. She places her hands on my shoulders and stops both her and me. 'You like this Draco Malfoy. Don't you?' I tell her I honestly don't know. 'Well, I know. The signs are all there; the way you look at him, the way you get even happier than usual at the mention of his name. And the best part is: he. Likes. You. Too!' She practically sings the last part.

I disagree. I tell her that, too. 'Oh, whatever! He called you "pretty" and "really nice" last night, right?' I guess she's right. 'And, I'm sorry about this, but,' she pauses. 'I heard what he said on the boats. He said that you were beautiful- compared your looks to this castle. Bloody hell, wake up woman!' Then she cups her hand over her mouth. I'm pretty sure it's because she said bloody hell. We resume walking, hurrying a bit to catch up to my brother and the three younger Weasley boys.

At breakfast I sit next to Hermione and Harry. Next to Harry was Ron, and next to Hermione was a boy named Neville Longbottom. He seems quite nice. Across from me there's the twins, Percy and a couple of first years named Dean and Seamus. Dean was pretty funny and Seamus was alright, I guess.

From where I'm sitting I can see Draco, and he can see me. I can't stop thinking about what Hermione said before. And I have my first class with him. Oh, god. He gives me a nod and a smile then turns to the boy from last night, Goyle.

George looks at Snape and starts to laugh. He looks between Fred and I. 'I swear that's the first time he's washed his hair in decades!' The three of us dissolve into laughter, and when Neville asks what's funny Fred tries to splutter it out between laughing fits, but he can't.

The headmaster clears his throat and we stop laughing. He looks our way and smiles slightly. He says some random stuff and then we're suddenly being told to go to our classes. Hermione looks at me and can instantly tell I'm worried.

'It's alright, I know where to go. Come on you three!' she starts to walk off. Harry, Ron and I look at each other and shrug. We follow her to potions, where Draco is waiting.

'Lydia, do you want to sit with me?' he asks. I look at Hermione, who does the thumbs up.

'I would love to, but I've kind of already promised to sit with my friend, Hermione,' I lie.

His face falls, but he quickly recovers with a small smile. 'Oh, okay. Cool,' He looks at his friends and walks into class.

'We never promised that?' Hermione walks over to me.

'I know, but I just couldn't! And before you ask why, I'll just say: I don't know!'

She rolls her eyes and walks into class. We sit in the desks next to Harry and Ron and one to the right and up from Draco.

-----

After potions with Snape- who I don't think he likes my brother and I- I wait outside the door for Draco.

'Potter,' he nods, walking out of the classroom.

'Malfoy,' I imitate his nod, grinning. 'Say, after lessons today, you wouldn't want to meet up or something?'. I ask. Then I think 'why did I do that?!'.

'Sure, how about.. uh, by the black lake? Half an hour after last lesson?'

'Meet you there,' I confirm.

I walk over to Hermione, sighing. 'Why. Did. I. Ask. That? What are we even going to do. Sit there awkwardly? Oh, god.'

'Maybe you could... um... talk?' she laughs. 'Anyway, he seems happy.' And she's right, he does.
