Harry was called to sit on the stool. He was to place the Sorting Hat on his head, and it would yell out the house it thought he should be in- Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff or Slytherin. Gryffindor was said to be the brave house, Ravenclaw the intelligent, Hufflepuff were meant to be the best at finding, and Slytherin was cunning... and apparently evil- but Draco was put into that house, so I wondered if it were really true.
Harry sits on the stool, with the hat on his head, for a moment or two. 'GRYFFINDOR!' yells the hat. I'm called next. I really want to be a Gryffindor, but I'll probably be put into Hufflepuff. I sit and put the hat on my head. I cross my fingers at my side and chant 'Gryffindor, Gryffindor' inside my head.
"Hmm... you could be in any of the houses, my dear..." the Sorting Hat says, seemingly inside my head. It considers for a moment before yelling "Gryffindor!". Everyone at the Gryffindor table cheer and Hermione makes room for me on the bench. All the other houses are clapping. Draco looks disappointed...
I walk over to sit down and Harry, Hermione and two red-haired twins high five me. I just hope my hands weren't too sweaty. The twins introduce themselves as Fred and George Weasley. That annoying Ronald kid from the train looks over at us and gives a worried look.
'Have you,' began one twin. 'Met our brother?' Finishes the other.
'His name is Ron,' an older red-haired boy says- who I later found out to be Percy.
Harry looks between the three of them and then at Ron. "Could you all possibly be brothers?'
'We sure are,' grin the twins. 'Jinx! Jinx! DOUBLE JINX! Haha, stop it! No, you stop it! Stop.'
Percy flicks the twins ears. 'Shut up, you two! There's more than just us four, by the way.'
'We'll tell you later though- Ron's about to be sorted!' George adds.
He also gets put into Gryffindor. He sits down and gets high fives from his brothers, Harry and I.
'Anyways, as we were saying...' starts Fred.
'Other than us two,' George mentions to him and Fred, "there is old "Perfect Prefect Percy" here, and Ron- as you both know. Then there's also Ginny...'
'She'll be coming next year,' finishes Fred. "And then there's our two other brothers, Charlie and Bill. They've already gone though.'
'Ssssh, Dumbledore is going to speak!' Percy puts a finger to his mouth.
We listen to Dumbledore's short speech, which was 'Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!'. It finished with 'Tuck in!'
Harry and I have never eaten as much at meals times. This was a rule of the Dursley's, of course. We were kind of surprised when we seen everyone taking whatever they wanted. Then I noticed that they refilled themselves. Harry leans over to me 'the food wasn't there before Dumbledore was talking, right?' he whispers. I realise that they hadn't, so I shook my head.
Harry and I take a look and everyone stuffing there face- oh, god Ron is such a pig- and then at each other. We break into grins and start eating. We have like three helpings- usually we have half a helping, no joke. Harry and Ron start talking. Being the gross dudes they were, they talked with their mouths full.
Fred, George and I finish first. Fred begins to talk to me. "So, you're the famous Mr Potter's brother?'
'I guess so,' I reply.
'Why were you hardly featured in the news and stuff... why don't you have a scar?' He mentions to his forehead.
'Well, you see, I don't think Voldemort-' everyone except Harry shudders. 'Sorry, "You-Know-Who" knew I was there. I've seen pictures and stuff in newspapers from it; I'm sitting in what I think was the kitchen- it was pretty messed up- in the photos.'
'Ah, but the kil- uh, stuff happened somewhere else.' He smiles at me. 'It's a good thing you and Harry weren't killed.'
I smile back. He seems really nice. Not at all annoying like that Ronaldo, or whatever his name was.
I'm snapped out of my thoughts by Hermione pointing up at the front. 'He's going to speak again!' She whispers. As she does, the food starts disappearing, which Harry and I take great surprise to.
This time Dumbledore's speech is a bit longer. There's a part about not going 'into the Forbidden Forest'. At this point Harry turns to me. 'That means you don't go in there,' he looks at me. I look back and smile innocently. 'I know what you're like,' he says and turns back to the Headmaster. I poke my tongue out at the back of his head.
Dumbledore says something about not going into the 'Forbidden Corridor on the right side of the third floor corridor.' Is everything forbidden here?
A bit later he starts the Hogwarts' school song. The older kids begin singing. Their all in different tunes and Dumbledore is making a banner with the words over his head- magically of course.
'Hogwarts, Hogwarts, Hoggy Warty Hogwarts, Teach us something please, Whether we be old and bald, Or young with scabby knees, Our heads could do with filling, With some interesting stuff, For now they're bare and full of air, Dead flies and bits of fluff, So teach us things worth knowing, Bring back what we've forgot, Just do your best, we'll do the rest, And learn until our brains all rot.'
Harry turns to me, amusement in his eyes. 'This is the best school song ever,' he laughs. Soon we're all told to go up to our dorms. Our prefect- Percy, of course- starts to lead us up.
Just before we get out of the great hall, Draco grabs my arm. 'You should have been a Slytherin...' he says.
I smile and put my head down a bit, not wanting to admit I technically asked to be in Gryffindor. I tell him that I'd see him later and hurry to catch up with my house, waving to him behind me.
We're meant to go off to bed, but I don't really want to. I stay awake, and eventually the common room's light is switched off. I creep down the stairs. 'Oi! Lydia?' I hear a familiar voice. I walk to where I heard it and I see Fred and George there.
'What are you doing?' I ask curiously.
'We could ask the same to you. But, nahhh. We're planning to prank a teacher tomorrow, right George? You can help if you want,' Smiles Fred. George whacks him in the stomach and glares at him, but agrees.
After getting everything ready we creep down to the great hall. We set up the prank and start creeping back to the common room when we hear some people talking. One of the voices I know, the other two I don't.
'But she's a Potter,' Says one voice.
'Compared to you she's a mudblood,' says another. I look over at the Twins and give them a "what-the-hell-does-that-mean" look.
George leans over and says 'you know purebloods and half-bloods?' I nod. 'Yeah, well a mudblood is a muggle born. Malfoy's a pure, high class. So to him and his little friends, you're pretty much that' He waggles his eyebrows, and I raise mine.
'It's really not nice,' Fred chimes in.
'I don't care. I think she's... pretty. And she's really nice.' Yeah, that was Draco.
'Still a Potter.'
I start to go around the corner, but Fred grabs my arm. "No," he whispers. I tug away.
'Talking about me, boys?!' I give them a huge, fake smile.
'Uh, uh, nooo,' Draco stutters.
'Well, yeah,' a friend says at the same time.
Draco punches him in the stomach. 'Shut up, Goyle!'
Fred and George come around the corner. "Malfoy. How terrible to see you again,' smirks Fred. This time I punch one of my friends in the gut.
'See you at breakfast tomorrow... Malfoy. I think we have a class together in the morning?' I say.
He nods, 'yeah, pretty sure we do. Good night... Potter,' He smiles.
'Night,' I wave as I walk away. I hear him sigh behind me and whisper something to his other friend 'Oh, god, I didn't look like an idiot did I, Crabbe?' I grin and walk upstairs to the common room with my new friends.
