The bell rings, releasing us from the boring world of plants and green houses. We throw down our tools and sprint to Hagrid's. He's flushing with excitement. He tells us that it's almost done as he ushers us in. The egg is on the table, cracking more and more with every step we take, bringing us closer it. There is an odd clicking noise, not exactly what you'd expect from a dragon egg. We all grab a chair and watch the egg, scarcely breathing.
Suddenly there's a loud crack and a creature is revealed. It's not very pretty- in fact, it reminds me of a black umbrella, all crumpled up. The wings look much to big for it's body, it has a long snout and wide nostrils. It's eyes look as if they're reflecting fire. It's horns are all stubby and odd looking. The dragon's body is jet black, as dark as the peak of night.
It sneezes a couple of times, sending sparks shooting at Hagrid. Hagrid just gazes lovingly at it and sighs, 'beautiful...'
He attempts to stroke it, but it bares it's teeth, which look just like the pointed fangs of a vampire. 'Look at that! 'E knows 'is Mummy!' smiles Hagrid.
'So, how fast do these Norwegian Ridgebacks grow...?' asks Hermione, wincing as more sparks escape the dragon's nostrils. Hagrid opens his mouth to answer, but instead jumps up and hurries to the window.
'Hagrid! What's the matter?' I ask, shocked at the sudden change in mood from our friend.
'Someone was looking through the curtains,' Hagrid mutters, wrenching them closed so hard that they almost fall off. 'Was a kid. 'e's running back up to the castle now.'
I run to the door, my brother along side me, and we peer out of it. I can see the white-blond hair of my boyfriend, even from here. 'Malfoy,' Harry sneers, as I gasp, 'Draco!'
Ron looks at me. 'You didn't ask him to co-'
'No. No I didn't ask him to come here,' I snarl. How could Ron think I'd do that! 'D'you think I want to get Hagrid in trouble?' I add in a hiss, to Ron.
'Nah, suppose not?' Ron says uncertainly, looking slightly scared.
-----
I'm surprised that Draco hasn't mention the dragon, yet. He's been smirking at Harry, Ron and Hermione every time he sees them, thinking I don't realise. It's been about a week since the little dragon was hatched.
A lot of time over the past week has been spent at Hagrid's. It's darkened, for the sake of the dragon, I suppose. We try and reason with him, but he won't budge.
'Come on, Hagrid! You have to see the danger in this! Just let him go... please?!' I try.
'No, I can't!' Hagrid says, looking accusingly at me. ''e'll die on 'is own!' He frowns, looking so sad, that I can't even argue. I look to my three friends for help. They're all looking at the dragon.
It'd grown to three times the size of itself, at birth, in just the past week! Smoke curled into the air from the jet black nostrils. Littered around the room there are empty brandy bottles and chicken feathers. I sigh inwardly. Hagrid hadn't been doing his duties as gamekeeper, because of the dragon.
'I've decided to call the little guy Norbert! He knows his mummy! Look,' he points to the dragon. 'Norbert! Norbert, where's mummy?'
'Hagrid!' Harry says loudly, as Ron shakes his head in disbelief. 'Give it a week or two and this "Norbert" will be as long as your house! Malfoy could go to Dumbledore at anytime!'
