Eventually it was Christmas Eve. The day dragged on. The highlight of the day was when a couple delivery owl dropped off a few parcels. There was a Christmas present for Harry, Ron and I. There was also a note saying "Lydia, make sure the boys don't open these until Christmas! And you, too! I sent your present and sent the things you asked for! See you again soon, Hermione x".
I sent Hermione her present yesterday, along with some muggle money to buy something for Harry, Ron and Draco. I sent her a muggle book that I knew she hadn't read. I tear open the parcel containing Ron, Harry and Draco's presents.
Harry had his favourite type of chocolate bar, Ron had a football [soccer ball] (maybe Dean and I could teach him to play...) and I had specially requested Hermione to get Draco a certain type of chocolate. It was honestly the best stuff ever- Harry and I once got it from one of the few friends we'd ever had, back when we were about 9. It was a girl called Hannah that gave it to us. She was in our class and was really sweet. Dudley (apparently) had a bit of a crush on her, so he didn't care quite as much when she talked to us.
I send Draco's chocolate off to him, using the owl. Once the clock hit 7 p.m, the time started going fairly quickly. Soon enough we were in bed, me in my lonely dorm, Harry and Ron in theirs.
-----
When I woke up the next morning I got out of bed, as usual. I go to pick up a book and go to the common room, when something on the end of my bed catches my eye- presents. I wasn't exactly used to getting presents on Christmas- not proper ones, anyway. I usually got a lame thing from Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia, and Harry would occasionally have been able to get me a small thing. That was rare though, as we would get about 50 cents of pocket money every 3 months.
I pick up my haul of presents (excluding Draco's- I'll open that later) and make my way to my brother's dorm. I awkwardly knock on the door. 'Come in?' I hear the Weasley yell.
I push open the door and go in. I dump my (few) presents on the floor. 'You haven't opened your presents yet,' I say. 'I'm surprised.'
'We were waiting for you,' replies Harry. I give him a weird look, causing Ron to laugh. 'We knew you'd come,' Harry explains.
We all start to open our presents. I pick up my one from Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon first. Harry does, too, and we tear them open. 'A... 50 cent piece...' I say.
'That's friendly,' jokes Harry, causing us both to laugh. Ron, however was fascinated.
'Look at the shape!' He holds Harry's coin into the light. I chuck him my one, too. 'Keep it,' I say. Harry nods, 'Mine, too.'
'Wow!' Ron exclaims.
I chuck them my presents to them, along with the ones from Hermione.
Hermione had gotten both of the boys Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans. She had sent me a box of chocolate frogs.
Hagrid had sent me a few chocolate frogs, too, and Harry a hand made whistle- it sounded similar to an owl.
'Okay, so this was from Hermione, this was from Lydia and this was from Hagrid...' Harry says. He looks to the end of his bed. 'Who are these from?'
I look down at my tiny pile of gifts- I have two more, as well.
'I know who those ones are from...' Ron groans, pointing to the lumpier packages. I look at him waiting for an answer. 'I told my mum that you guys.. that you guys weren't expecting presents. She's sent you Weasley jumpers!'
Harry looks over at me, and I look back. I shrug and begin to open the gift. Harry starts to open his. I pull out home made fudge ('yum!') and an aqua blue hand knitted jumper. Harry's is an emerald green- and he also gets fudge.
I put a bit of fudge in my mouth. It's so good! 'My jumpers are always maroon,' Ron complains, holding up his latest one. 'Mum makes one every year...'
'That's really nice,' Harry says. I nod, 'does she always make fudge, too?' Ron grins, 'usually. It's nice, aye?'
'It's... it's amazing!' I say. We all break into laughter. I pick up my next parcel. It's small and seems to contain a box. I rip open the package, just to see a little jewellery box.
I open the box cautiously. It's a beautiful emerald necklace on a chain, which is quite gold in colour. 'Who's that from?' Ron asks. I go to reply- to say I have no idea- when Harry gasps. I look over.
'What is that?!' I say, as a light, silvery material covers his knees. It's a cloak... but why and from who?
'If... if that's w-what I think it is... well, bloody hell, it's valuable! And extremely rare!' Ron says, excited. I give him a what-are-you-on-about look, and he begins to speak again, 'I think- no, I'm sure- it's an invisibility cloak! Try it on!' Harry does as Ron says. Suddenly all Ron and I can see of Harry is his head.
'It is one!' Ron yells. I hold up my hand to silence everyone. 'Okay, awesome... but why?' I ask.
'I.. don't know?' Harry says, at the same time Ron gives another yell. 'There's a note!'
He reads it aloud. 'Your father left this in my possession before he died. It is time it was returned to you. Use it well. A very merry Christmas to you,' Ron looks up bewildered. Harry looks at me. 'Dad,' is all he says. I nod, looking down. I focus on the necklace.
I bend down and pick it up. I see a note fluttering out. I catch it and read it out. 'Your mother left this for me to pass on to her daughter, you, just before she died. It is time to give it back. Merry Christmas.'
'Okay, so we just got a gift from our mother and father... through someone else?' Harry says. 'But through who?'
'I don't know. But forget it. For now, at least.' Before anyone could even open their mouths the dorm door is almost blown clean off it's hinges.
'Fred! George!' I say.
'Heyo! Merry Christmas,' they smile in reply. I give them both a quick hug. 'Merry Christmas,' I say.
'Wait, you guys got Weasley jumpers, too?' Fred grins, seeing me wearing mine, and Harry's on his bed. The twins were wearing darker blue ones, one with a huge yellow F, and the other with a G.
'Why aren't you wearing your's Ron? And you Harry?' teases George. 'They're very toasty and warm- right, Lydia?'
'Oh, yes! Get them on then!'
Harry laughs and tugs his on. 'But I hate maroon,' sighs Ron, halfheartedly, but pulls it on anyway.
'Why do you two have letters but we don't?' I ask.
'Because she won't forget your names,' George begins. 'But we're not stupid!' continues Fred.
'We know that he's Forge,' grins George. 'And he's Gred!' smiles Fred. We all laugh, until we're interrupted.
'What's all this noise?' demands Percy.
He had his Weasley jumper over his arm. I look at the twins cheekily. They grin back. Fred steals Percy's jumper. 'P for prefect. Perfect!'
'Get it on then!' George says. 'We've all got our's on! Even Harry and I,' I say.
'Stop! I don't wan-'
'Of course you want to, Perc!' I say, as the twins shove his jumper over his head. They knock his glasses, making them sit extremely weird on his nose. I pull the off and sit them straight.
'You're not sitting with the prefects today. Christmas is a time for family!' the twins say. I lead the way to the hall, as the twins march Percy. His hands are pinned to his side by his jumper. Ron and Harry take up the rare.
I put my hand in my pocket and feel something cool. I smile. Mum's necklace.
