We're Late!

I look into the mirror. Staring back I see a girl, with brown hair floating nicely around her, about half-way down her back. She has green eyes, which look like emeralds. She is wearing her uniform; a grey v-neck cardigan, white shirt and a tie with her house colours- red and gold. On the bottom she has a knee length black skirt, grey ankle socks and flat black shoes. She has no make up on. As her friend says "she's a natural beauty". She looks pretty good, even in the uniform.

I pull away from the mirror. 'I look terrible. How can I meet Draco looking like this?' I ask Hermione.

'Well, you look amazing,' she smiles. 'Not that Draco will be looking long,' she adds. When I give her a weird look she giggles. 'He's going to drop dead!'

I punch her in the arm and mutter 'whatever'.

I walk down to the common room and Fred stands up from his arm chair. 'Hey Lydia! Where are you going?' He asks. I tell him I'm going to meet a friend. He says 'oh, well, see you later,' and sits down as a reply.

I shake my head, slightly confused, and then rush down the stairs to the main doors. Just as I open them I hear a voice behind me. 'What do you think you're doing?' Ugh, it's that Pansy Parkinson girl. She always hangs around Draco- well tries to anyway. She dislikes me, and doesn't care who knows it. I dislike her right back, but I'm more civil about it.

'Going to meet someone. Why do you care, Snoopinson?' Well that was lame. Good going Lyds!

'Is it Draco?'

'As I said, why do you care?' I pull open the doors.

'Just looking out for him. Don't want him to get mixed up with a mudblood, that's for sure. Anyway I seen him leaving before so I put two and tw-'

'Shut up.' I cut her off. She opens her mouth to retort, but then closes it and flounces off. Ugh, she's so annoying!

I walk outside, and head towards the black lake. Draco is already sitting near it, waiting. I walk up behind him. He doesn't notice I'm there until I sit down next to him.

'Lydia, I was worried you weren't going to come after all,' he looks over at me.

'Why?'

'Well, it was just you know, laughing at your brother and that Neville kid in potions. Sorry,' he adverts his eyes across the lake so that he's not looking at me.

'It's okay.' It was obvious why he was so worried. Harry didn't manage to answer Snape's tough questions and Draco and his friends thought it was funny. At one stage he looked over at me, still laughing. I gave him a disappointed look, before giving Snape a death glare. To be quite honest I forgot about it, as soon as Neville mixed up his potion... which Harry got blamed for, even though they weren't working together!

Draco starts a conversation by talking about me. So, he's actually quite a gentleman. I tell him about my horrid "family" back home, and how they hated me and Harry, which was quite stupid, what'd we ever done to them?

He told me how his family pressure him to be like them. 'You know it's not at all common for a Slytherin and a Gryffindor to hang out like this, right?' He asks suddenly.

'Yeah, I sort of guessed,' I say slowly. 'But I guess we're breaking the stereotype,' I joke. He grins in reply. 'I'm guessing a half-blood and a pureblood being together is uncommon, too?' I add.

He nods. 'But we're breaking the stereotype, remember?' His eyes twinkle with amusement.

Next we talk about coming to school and everyone knowing your brother- and everyone had heard of you- but you knowing no one. Or next to no one for him.

'It's so easy for you to fit in,' he says.

'How so?'

'You fit in with your brother and that weird Ron kid, you fit in with the smart girl- Hermione, right?' I nod, confirming that it was in fact her name. 'You fit in with other people from your house, and other houses- like me, I guess,' he looks over at me 'I mean, you even fit in with the Weasley twins! And they're older than you!'

I roll my eyes. 'What about you? The people in your house seem to be all over you! Snape thinks you're brilliant,' I look at him. 'And you fit with me.' I duck my head.

He laughs and shakes his head. 'They may like me, but that's not to say I like them, or I technically "fit" with them.'

'What about Pansy?'

'What about her?'

'She's, like, in love with you or something. She stopped me on the way here to ask where I was going and then asked if it were to see you. I asked why she should care and she told me she was "looking out" for you and she wouldn't want you to be "mixed up with a mudblood" like me!'

'She didn't?! Wow.'

'Oh, she did. But who cares.'

Suddenly I'm hungry. I tell Draco we should probably go in for dinner when we realise: we're late. We've missed dinner. We sneak into the castle and stand by the doors, so we can just get caught up in everyone else. Draco pulls me back, when we hear everyone start moving around- but with a little to much force- being caught up in the moment and all- and we practically end up hugging. We start laughing... well, more giggling than anything, until I tell him to shut up. Then everyone starts pouring out of the hall in the direction of the common rooms.

Draco starts pulling away to follow some Slytherins. 'Wait, Draco!' He looks at me. 'I... I know how to get into the kitchens, if you maybe want to go grab something?'

'Sure,' he says grinning. 'And I thought you were good.'

'Oh, no. I'm very bad,' I laugh.

On the way to the kitchens I tell him about what me and the twins did to Snape. He finds it hilarious. Next I tell him how I know they way into the kitchen (tickling the pear)... which the Weasley twin's taught me, of course.
