Harry, Draco and I went with Fang, deep into the heart of the forest. We walked for what felt like an hour- it was actually only about half an hour- before we had to stop. The trees were so thick we could no longer see the earthy path. I noticed, and I think Harry did, too- the blood had begun to get thicker, every step we took. It was all over tree roots and branches that were strewn across the ground.
I look at Draco. He looks down at a tree root and shivers. He's scared again. I go past Harry and catch up to him. I take his hand in mine, which causes him to tense. He looks over and sees me, smiling next to him. He heaves out a sigh, presumably of relief, while his tension loosens. His fingers close over mine and I give his hand a small squeeze. He squeezes mine back appreciatively.
Suddenly Harry is beside me. He throws out an arm to stop myself and Draco walking forward. 'Look,' he tells us, pointing to a clearing ahead. A white body gleamed from the middle of it. We inch closer, Draco's hand still clutched in mine.
The gleaming white body was the unicorn. It was dead, lying there alone and lifeless. The entire thing was beautiful, yet so, so depressing. It's legs were stuck out at uncomfortable angles, it's mane spread out, contrasting against the harsh, dark back ground. A single tear dripped from my eye, but I quickly dried it, before either boy could see.
I let go of Draco's hand and step forward. Harry had the same idea. We were about to take another one, when an odd slithering sound came from the edge of the bushes. The figure hiding there quivered, then suddenly slid out and moved towards the unicorn. The four of us- including Fang- stood, staring, transfixed. The figure then bowed his head, placing it over the animal's wound. I abruptly realised... it was drinking the unicorn's blood- or what was left of it.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!' Draco screams from his place next to me. He hightails it out of there, Fang hot on his heels. Harry and I stay. The hood clad figure turns. It stares straight at my brother, apparently completely unaware of my existence. Unicorn blood dribbled down the unknown figure's front as he walked towards Harry.
'Harry we have to go. LET'S GO!' I shouted, pulling at him. But he wouldn't come. I run. I run past a couple of trees before remembering a promise Harry and I made to each other, back when we were with the Dursleys. "I will always be there for you, no matter the situation, no matter the outcome. We will always stay together." It pretty much meant that I should be back there with Harry facing whatever that figure was together, no matter what. Even if it meant possible death, I had to go back to my brother. My best friend. I retrace my steps back to where I left Harry and slip behind the closest tree, just in time to see Harry falling to his knees, clutching his forehead. Clutching his scar.
Out of the blue a new figure appears, leaping through the air towards the figure, which was advancing on the kneeling Harry. It's a centaur, but not one of the ones Draco, Neville and I saw earlier. This one is young, with white-blond hair, not unlike Draco's, with a palomino body.
Harry slowly pulls his hands away from his scar. He looks up to the centaur. 'T-thank you,' Harry whispers.
'Are you alright?' the centaur asks Harry.
'Yes. Yes, I think so.' Harry pauses. 'What was that... that thing?'
The centaur doesn't answer immediately, and when he does he doesn't acknowledge Harry's question. 'You're the Potter boy, right?' it asks, staring at Harry's scar. 'You need to get back to Hagrid. The forest is not safe at this time. And especially not for you. Can you ride?'
'My... my sister-' Harry says awkwardly.
I step out from behind the tree. 'I'm here, Bolt.'
'Lydia! Lyds you're okay!' Harry grins. He turns to the centaur. 'I guess I can ride, but what about Lydia?'
