"And what? What did he say?" Serene asked enthusiastically as Nora explained how Draco asked her to the ball.
"Then he gave me this cute necklace and asked me to be his date for the ball." Nora squealed, recalling the night.
" Yeah, Iris. Didn't Theo ask you? What did you say? " Nora questioned, remembering the whole Theo situation.
Ainsley didn't involve much in it. It was mostly just Theo and Draco, with some help from Nora, Carla and Ainsley. Heck, she didn't even know that the guy already asked her.
The situation stressed her out so much that she almost studied for her exams.
"Theo did ask me." Iris nodded in confirmation. "But I turned him down. I already said yes to Cedric, so yeah."
Ainsley could sense how quick Nora's smile died down, because hers did too.
"Sucks to be him." Carla shrugged, earning a laugh from Serene.
Ainsley took a quick glance at where Theo was sat, only to see him already looking their way. Or rather at Iris.
He looked really upset. Ainsley waved at him, after he noticed her gaze. But he simply ignored her. Damn, he was that upset, huh?
Ainsley looked back towards the girls, listening to when and how Cedric asked her.
"We decided to have the second date earlier and it just happened." Iris smiled.
"Didn't you have a thing for Theo?" Nora was stressed out. She could feel the exact things Ainsley felt when Draco came begging for guidance more than a year ago.
"Well, yeah. But clearly, it won't work out so I just decided to move on. And honestly, Cedric is kinda better than Theo." Iris mumbled.
"That, is the truth." Ainsley said, earning a slap on the thigh from Nora.
"We're supposed to be helping Theo!" She mumbled.
"No, you are supposed to be helping. Nobody asked me for any favours." Ainsley spoke, while rubbing her stinging thigh. Some thick ass hands, Nora had.
"Bro, you are his friend." Nora whispered again. The others were already too engaged in a conversation about Serene's love life to notice this exchange.
"Yeah, friend. Not a legal advisor or a therapist." Ainsley shrugged, earning a scoff from Nora. "You're unbelievable." Nora sighed.
"Can't help it." Ainsley said, scrolling through her phone.
"Theo and Draco just left! This is the perfect chance to console him!" Nora tapped, or more like hit, on Ainsley's shoulder repeatedly.
"Woman, I honestly do not care- hey, that's my croissant!"
"Come with me if you want it." Nora whispered before excusing herself to the girls. Ainsley sighed before doing the same.
She ran a little to catch up to Nora.
"Give me my croissant back, I'm going with you." Ainsley followed Nora, slightly sulky that she took her croissant away.
"You'll get it when we catch them." Nora began fastening her pace.
"Hey wait, walk slowly!"
"Not my fault you have short legs." Nora spoke, practically running.
After a few seconds, Ainsley just gave up and started walking at her own pace.
Theo was already replying to Nora's attempts of consolation when Ainsley arrived.
" Ya-ho, it's your favourite girl!" Ainsley joined the conversation.
Theo and Draco just shut up and gave her a blank stare. The same one they gave her the other day at the library.
"Don't glare at me, she forced me here. I came here against my own will. My child is being held hostage." Ainsley raised both her hands up, as in surrendering.
"Stop calling everyone your child." Nora gave Ainsley her croissant back. "Now, don't run off."
"I won't if they at least tried to make me feel welcome." Ainsley took a bite of her precious croissant.
"Are you three fighting or something? What is your guys' problem?" Nora squinted at the tension in the atmosphere.
Draco wasn't unnecessarily insulting Ainsley, Theo wasn't calling her crazy, and Ainsley was being little too calm than usual. Something was up.
"Her. She is the problem." Theo answered, his blank expression stayed unwavering.
"What did she do? She was just simply here to console-"
"Console him? No, I was here to rescue my kid." Ainsley interrupted Nora.
"Now that you got it, why don't you leave?" Theo snapped.
"Hey, that's mean-" Nora was cut off again.
"Go back and give Cedric everything he needs to know so that he can be the perfect guy for Iris!" Theo continued.
"Huh?" Nora was confused.
"If you had grown a pair and asked her before, he wouldn't have asked her." Ainsley stayed calm. Wait no, mad. Calm was her mad.
"Okay, please give me context before you fight. I'm so lost." Nora stopped the two.
" Well our 'friend' over here was the one who gave Cedric Iris's number in the first place! If she hadn't, none of this would've happened." Theo explained, anger evident in his tone.
" Do you hear yourself right now?" Ainsley chuckled sarcastically.
" Yes, I do. Loud and clear." Theo took a step forward.
"Cedric is as much as a friend as you guys' are, it's only natural I help him too! " Ainsley mirrored his actions.
" You did what? " Nora's neck snapped at Ainsley's direction.
"I did what any person would have done if they were in my place." Ainsley gave Nora a quick response before turning back to Theo, to hear what he had to say.
"So, if a friend of mine asks me for Cyno's number because she liked him, you wouldn't mind if I gave it to her?"
"You sound stupid, right now. It's totally different. Cyno's my boyfriend, of course I wouldn't be okay-"
"So you wouldn't be okay with it, but Theo should be?" Draco added more fuel to the fire.
"Iris was never yours in the first place, get that straight. " Ainsley muttered before walking away. Her head ached with all the stress she gained from the argument.
