Chapter 16

Lia's POV

He was bleeding out.
I was loosing him.
I could feel mate bond weakening. I had to do something and quick!
Everyone around me was shouting.
They were begging me to save their King but I wasn't sure if this will be enough.
My eyes turned blue. I focused all my energy on him, on a good things. I can't loose him.
I could feel him slipping through my fingers. My heart was pounding. I was struggling to catch a breath. He was dying! He was... He...

Blackness.
All I could see around me was blackness.
There was no shouting, no people, nothing. My whole body was shaking. Painfully.

"Lia!... Lia!! Wake up !" - I've heard a familiar voice.
I slowly opened my eyes.
Izzy.
My body relaxing slowly at her worried face.
"Sorry" I said quietly.
"Hej, it's ok. I get them too sometimes. Was it a nightmare?" She asked, hugging me gently.
"Yep, definitely" I was still spooked a bit by this very unexpected dream.
"How is your back?" She asked "do you mind me checking it ? "
I shook my head.
She came around reaching other side of my temporary bed.
A sharp inhale told me that it's not looking great.
"Oh, Lia... I'm .." she started but I interrupted
"Don't be. It meant to happen."
I said quickly.
"I need to tell you something " I added.
Izzy eyes met mine.
"I knew Griffin is my mate. I allowed him not to find out. I hoped he wouldn't realise. " I took a deep breath.
"I was scared he would reject me, and I'm not sure if I will survive this." I continued.
Izzy Nodded with understanding.

"Well, I came to help you prepare for ceremony. All guests will be here shortly, including your friends bears. To be honest I don't know what's my brother's plans are. I just hope he will choose you and not that sl*t"
Izzy said angrily
I nodded . I wasn't even planning on arguing with her about that.
"Come on then, let's make ourself look gorgeous!" She smiled.
And we started our preparations.

Griffin's POV

Itan Cecil had one hand around my neck other was punching my guts. I deserved it.
I promised to protect her and I failed. I broke this promise, couldn't protect her from myself. Bears didn't care about wolf status. I knew it. Only when one of them was mated to someone in your closest family, they respected those boundaries.

"Itan, Brother if you kill him Lia will never forgive you" said Jackson holding his hand on Cecil's shoulder. His bears eyes peaking, ready to protect his human if needed.

Cecil dropped me on the ground.

"I'm only letting you go because I don't want Lia to be in any more pain, and from what you said the bond is strong enough to cause it" he said looking at me with bear eyes. He's beast ready to strike again .

The air was thick. I knew they could hurt me. Easily. Very often in the fight, Bear were feral.

"Itan" I said looking directly at him "I know I deserve the worst punishment possible. I know I screwed up. But I know what I want. Right now I want my Luna. I think I know why she didn't tell me. She was scared of rejection. I would probably did not believe her anyway. " I said, hanging my head down.
" if I could punish myself without hurting her , I would. "
They nodded.
My wolf started to heal all bruises and cuts.

The same moment Claire came into the room.
Damn. I totally forgot about her.

"Griffin we need to talk."
She said quickly, demanding.
I nodded. Bears gave me one last look and left my office.
"What you need?" I nearly growled, my wolf annoyed but her tone of voice.
"Is it true?" She asked.
"Is it true that you found your mate? True mate?" She asked.
"Yes " I answered simply
"You cannot do this to me! We were supposed to be together!" She shouted
My wolf peaking a bit more. At this point I struggled to control him. I was tired. He was angry.
"I will not reject my true mate. I'm sorry Claire that you found out this way. I wanted to tell you myself. I will never reject her, or denied that she is my mate. Today during the ceremony you will apologise to her for what you did. " my statement finishes with my alpha tone.
"You will say you sorry for slapping her, with no reason and for her punishment without the reason other than protection. " I added.
She was quiet
"And if you will not, I will demote you to omega status" I finished
"You can't do that!" She shouted angrily.
"I can and I will." With that I left my office. I needed a walk before ceremony.

Lia's POV

I sat in an enormous hall all the way at the back.
I didn't want to be visible.
I looked at the centre at something that looked like alter and saw Claire looking as beautiful as Ever.

My breath hitched when I saw Griffin walking in
Hmm, he looks so delicious my wolf's voice boomed in my head suddenly.

I was upset with her. She left me when I needed her.
Where have you been? I needed you! I said to her. I felt like we are falling apart.

I'm sorry Lia, soon all will be known. But promise me when the time comes you will use your powers without a hesitation.

Griffin's POV

I could see her as soon as I walked into that room. Her blue dress, long hair and mesmerising eyes were all I needed. She was talking to Izzy to her right. Alex protectively standing to her left.

Suddenly the back door snapped open. The crowd froze.
