Chapter 26

Griffin's POV

I was barely awake. I could hear the hospital machines beeping loudly. The sanitary smell inviting my nose. I tried to open my eyes but couldn't. I could hear someone. Who was there?
Was it Lia?
I wanted to focus on the sounds around me. Catch the tone of their voice. Understand what they're saying.
It all seemed far away.
Like I am in the room next door.
My wolf seemed to be sleeping. What was happening ??

...

I seemed to drift away.
Or loose my consciousness.
I wasn't sure at this point.
It was like a flash of memories popping in and out of my head.

"How long doc? He's been asleep for days now ! "

"It's hard to say. Everyone is different. As he is an alpha king I'm sure not long now. All his wounds seems healed at this point"

I blinked several times before slowly half opening my eyes.

"Wa..ter..." I whispered. My throat burning.

"Alpha !" Several voices welcomed me.
"Don't talk" Sandiego said passing me a glass of water.
I blinked few more times and managed to open my eyes.
The room was dark. I looked around.
I could see everyone apart that one person I wanted to see so badly.

"Lia.." my voice barely a whisper now.
A whimper escaped my lips as a shooting pain went through my chest. My arm travelled to my heart.

What is happening? I feel weird. Why I cannot feel my wolf? Where the hell is my mate?

Mind linking my beta, who was now looking at me with his eyes filled with so much sadness I could taste the air with his fear.

Sandi dropped his eyes to the floor.

"I'm sorry My Alpha" was all he said.

Sorry for what? I don't get it..

I kept looking at him. I wanted him to continue.

"Your wolf is still healing. He got shot with a poison bullet that travelled far inside your body as you were moving a lot. Luna managed to pull it out to the surface and remove it from your body. When you were fighting, I took all women and kids to hide out.
We were attacked my Alpha. I couldn't help my Luna but she shifted and won her fight . Her wolf is beautiful. Pure white. she wanted to ran to you. I think she could feel that you were... wounded.."
He closed his eyes for a second and I kept watching how he is collecting himself to tell me what happened next.
"When she got there you were already dying.
She saw Alex being stabbed with Chloe claws and she attacked. She killed Chloe. Ripped her head off. Later we burned Chloe's body just to make sure.
Lia saved Alex'es life. She heard how Chloe said that Hunter is her brother- she couldn't let his brothers mate die.
Then she went to you. You were very weak already.. "
he stopped and took another deep breath.
My heart dropped even more.. I know were this story is heading.
" I'm so sorry my Alpha. She has made a decision to save you. We tried everything but she is .. not responding .. she's alive but doctors had to connect her to life support. We don't know if she will ever wake up." He said last sentence with tears in his eyes.

I felt numbed.
I cannot be angry at her.
I don't feel sad
No
The feelings I can feel at this moment are to much. My mate ... I... I need to see her...

Take me to her Sandi ... I mind linked my beta.

He dried his face with his hands and nodded.

About half and hour later I was in a wheelchair rolling down the corridor. Still to weak to walk.

Her room was full of flowers
A small sound of music in the background filled the walls..
Sandi pushed me towards her bed.
She looked so peaceful yet so tired.
At least ten different IV marked her skin, oxygen mask and a sound of her heavy breathing.. I couldn't stop looking at her. If she dies I will never forgive myself. I gently grabbed her hand and kissed her cold fingers. Why is she so cold.? I didn't want to cry in front of others but at this point I didn't care. Tears filled my eyes and I sobbed like a baby, pushing her hand towards my forehead.

It must have been few hours as I seem to fall asleep.
A heavy noice of steps woken me up.
I looked around. Sandi left a while ago, giving me some privacy.
A knock on the door.
Doctor coming in
His hand lands on my shoulder, but I cannot feel its weight. I'm numbed. Again.

"Alpha" a small voice ringing in my head.
"You need to rest" doc said.
"No" I said, my voice still barely a whisper.
" pack needs you my Alpha. We need you. "
He continued trying to change my mind .

What I didn't know this was a begging of the end...
