"Oi, I just finished an intricate design for the top half of an outfit," Ollie's exhausted voice crackled over the phone.
"Okay, did you get any rest last night at all? You sound completely drained," I questioned, knowing he was prone to restless all-nighters when inspiration struck.
"Not the point of this call, I'll send the address. I have zero intention of leaving the apartment today," he yawned deeply.
"Alright, I'll head over as soon as I receive it," I agreed. I was rather surprised since I'd never been invited to his apartment before. I knew he wasn't going to let me inside though; he'd said it was often chaotic there between his brother and rambunctious friends.
"Just text me when you arrive," he stated curtly before hanging up abruptly.
"Is he always that blunt?" I looked to Hongjoong, who was gazing at me expectantly.
"He's not rude, just direct and to the point," I chuckled, amused that Hongjoong thought Ollie was impolite when he simply didn't know his frank personality.
Hongjoong slowly nodded. "I guess you'll have to be on your way then?" He tilted his head inquisitively.
We both knew this budding romance, or whatever you wanted to label it, would be tricky since I wasn't telling Ollie about spending time with Hongjoong. Ollie was my friend and I really didn't want to upset him, given his clear disdain for Hongjoong due to his friendship with Wooyoung. The tension between those two was insane. Hongjoong and I had discussed the likelihood they antagonized each other to mask mutual attraction. Hongjoong had jokingly, yet seriously, suggested locking Wooyoung and Ollie in a room together until they emerged as friends, or more.
I bid Hongjoong farewell and hurried to Ollie's apartment. When I arrived outside the sleek building, I retrieved my phone and texted Ollie. After some time with no reply, I ventured inside and ascended to his floor, messaging him again that I had arrived. Still no response came, so I rapped sharply on the door.
The door swung open and raucous chatter and clamor poured out of the apartment. A tall young man, the spitting image of Ollie but older, stood holding the door. He craned his head back, bellowing at someone within.
"Jisung, Ollie, keep it down!" He then glanced down at me.
"Um, hi," I stammered, taken aback.
"You're not the takeout," he raised an eyebrow.
"No, I - I'm here for Ollie," I explained, staring up at his imposing height.
"Oh, okay then. Come on in," he stepped aside and I entered the surprisingly tidy space for two guys' bachelor pad. Two others were lounging on the sleek leather couch eyeing me curiously as I came in.
"Sorry, I'm Laney," I introduced myself with a polite bow.
"I'm Hyuk, Ollie's brother, as you probably guessed," he laughed. "That's Chris and Minho." They lazily nodded in greeting.
"Nice meeting you all," I smiled warmly.
"Ollie's in there," Hyuk gestured towards an open door from which muffled music could be heard.
I walked over and saw Ollie in a large gaming chair, hair in a messy half-bun, wearing an oversized tan hoodie and what looked like boxers with bunched socks. Another boy sat beside him, legs crossed, leaning toward the TV, controller in hand. This explained the unanswered texts. I stood watching them play.
"Ji, one more shell and I'll end you," Ollie nudged his friend's shoulder.
"Hey, no cheating," the other boy nudged back.
I loudly cleared my throat and Ollie smashed pause, twisting to look at me. "That explains why you were ignoring me. You weren't kidding when you said it's chaotic here."
"I warned you," Ollie replied before turning back to the TV. "I swear to God, Ji. Do you want to die today?"
