Laney had finally managed to pry me away from my Xbox gaming session with Jisung, and we spent the rest of the day tirelessly perfecting our design. The end result was some of my finest work, and as Laney excitedly prepared to sew it together, she mentioned it should be ready by next weekend. What I hadn't anticipated was the unexpected reaction when it was finally completed.
"Here," Laney said as she handed me the finished outfit, her eyes sparkling with pride and anticipation.
"Why are you giving them to me?" I asked, my initial reaction one of confusion and wariness.
"Because I made them so you're going to be our model," Laney replied simply, her determination unwavering.
I hesitated, my mind racing through the various reasons I didn't want to be the model for our project. I couldn't help but think that wearing our creation would only serve as an open invitation for Wooyoung to approach me once again, and I was in no mood for that.
"Fat chance," I said, shoving the outfit back towards Laney, my voice filled with reluctance.
But Laney was unyielding, reminding me of all the effort and painstaking work she had poured into the project. Her fingers bore the telltale signs of her labor, dotted with various shades of purple and yellow bruises from the countless needles she had used.
"One of us has to wear them for the presentation, and since I did all the labor, it won't hurt you to wear them for one day," she argued, holding up her injured hands as evidence of her dedication.
I sighed, knowing I would have to swallow my pride and wear the outfit, even though I dreaded the possible consequences.
"Fine. But if anyone hits on me, it's your fault," I grumbled, my resolve crumbling under Laney's unrelenting gaze.
"Oh, stop whining. It's going to look so good on you and you know it," Laney retorted with a wave of her hand.
Just as we were about to leave the bookstore, where we seemed to spend most of our time lately, a familiar voice interrupted our conversation. It was Wooyoung, and seeing him there sent a shiver down my spine. Realizing that this was not the time nor the place for an argument, Laney and I quickly gathered our belongings and fled the scene.
As we escaped, I couldn't help but think about how the situation had escalated and how our once-simple project had now become a potential source of tension and unwanted attention. I hoped that our design would be worth all the trouble it had caused, and that it would ultimately pay off in the end.
