꧁𓊈𒆜"Chapter Four"𒆜𓊉꧂
Where you don't belong.

"Momma," I looked up at the woman, my bottom lip quivering.

"Asher," She sighed my name, bending down to scoop me in her arms.

I clung to her tight, rubbing my cheek against her neck trying to make my tears vanish from my face. She smelled so nice, her arms were so comforting. I didn't want to let her go. She spoke my name so comfortingly.

"You have to say goodbye to Lloyd now Ash. Will you be a brave boy and do that for me before you go to Papa?" She wondered, stroking my blonde hair back from my face.

I stretched to get a glimpse at my father, his face held a sombre expression. He was stood with his arms crossed over his chest, his brown hair combed over his forehead. He fixed a small encouraging smile on his lips when he saw my stare. I frowned despite their efforts to make this situation seem better for me.

"Lloyd coming with us!" I pouted, staring up at her face.

Her expression cracked something true and aching before she fixed it. Her eyes were watering behind her glasses. The rawness on her face for that split second made my throat feel tight. It only got worse when she softly shook her head.

"Lloyd is going somewhere else, somewhere he won't be changed whilst I figure out your future Ashton," She muttered quietly into my hairline, her lips pressing to my forehead, "Your father will look after you. You'll always have good in your heart,"

I didn't know what she meant, but I squeezed her closer until she had to put me down. She turned away for a moment, grabbing the baby holder, then pivoted to me again. I looked into the carrier to see my little brother, all swaddled up in a blue comforter. His eyes were shut but little tufts of blonde hair poked out from the small hat he wore. I smiled lightly through the sadness in my young heart. I wasn't exactly sure what was happening, but my Momma and Papa seemed so sad. I couldn't help but feel the same way too.

"L-lloyd," I whispered, reaching out to take his small hand, "I'll miss you brother!"

As if he could understand me through his slumber, his little hand flexed out and squeezed my finger.

"Asher,"

I looked behind me to see my Papa extend his hand. I swallowed, my eyes filling with tears, looking to my brother then to my Momma. I didn't want to leave him alone.

"Will I see him again?" I wondered, "What will happen to you Momma?"

She chuckled softly, kneeling down to my level, her finger dancing alongside a strand of my hair.

"Don't worry about me Baby," She shook her head, avoiding my question about Lloyd, "You'll see me again,"

...

I woke with a small groan, my back sore from spending the night on hard ground. Rubbing my hands over my eyes, I wasn't surprised to see the dark purple fields and blue skies in front of me. It would never be a surprise to wake up to darkness. I did it every fucking day in this god forsaken place. I shuffled backwards as I sat up, leaning properly against a tree. My fingernails dug into the ground under me, ripping up some of the dead grass that I was sat on. The only reason I currently wasn't digging my nails into my father was because evil parents have sort of been through it all when it came to rebellion. I wanted to make him regret closing the portal, but I didn't have much of a plan.
