Previously, on the Reverse 1999, chapter 2:
A smattering of snowflakes drifted down from the pale sky, swirling lazily in the crisp air. It wasn't a heavy snowfall by any means, but enough to dust the rooftops and cobblestone streets of Rayashki. The faint sunlight peeked out from behind a curtain of clouds, casting a golden ray across the small town, as if the sun itself were reaching out to touch the very soul of the place. Its warm glow seeped into every nook and cranny, painting the scene with a quiet poetry—a single beam of light cutting through the winter gloom, offering a glimmer of hope in the cold, harsh landscape.
It was a beautiful, serene moment indeed.
Yet beneath this peaceful facade, the town was anything but ordinary. Somewhere in the outskirts, not far away, the strangest sight was unfolding—normally skittish critters, the kind that would scatter at the first hint of a human presence, were causing havoc. But this wasn't chaotic behavior. No, these creatures had formed themselves into groups. They weren't just aimlessly roaming like mindless beasts. Instead, they were divided, almost like they had their own strategies, their own purpose. It was as though they were organizing—planning for something.
How shocking is that?
A figure stood still amidst the eerie calm—a woman with striking white hair and pale skin, wrapped in a soft fur-lined jacket. Windsong, as she was called, held her breath as she peered through the scope. Her fingers gripped the cold metal, steady and focused. The wind tousled her jacket lightly, but her eyes remained sharp, locked on the creature moving before her, she tracking its every movement like a hawk circling its prey. The world around her faded away; her focus consumed everything, leaving only her and the strange creature framed in her crosshairs.
Windsong parted her lips briefly, what is she trying to say?
"It's strange," she began, speaking more to the wind than to anyone around. Her eyes never left the creature through the scope. "The number of mutant Ijiraq... it's not normal, and how they gather like this makes things more interesting..." She frowned, she is becoming more unease. "I can't shake the feeling that there's something here, something I'm not seeing..."
Her voice faltered for a moment as she took in the scene before her. The air felt heavier as if some unseen force was pressing down on everything. Then she muttered again, but more to herself this time. "There's something... off about the energy here. I can feel it in my bones. It's like the whole town is stranger than I have anticipated. But what?"
