Previously, on the reverse 1999, Chapter 4:
He knows it's obvious, but somehow it eludes him. Frustration builds within his heart as the question remains unanswered, taunting him like a riddle whispered by the wind.
The torment of not knowing!
The Storm might not cause any physical harm, but its prolonged presence could still have dire consequences. Over time, it could slowly erode his mental well-being, leading to a steep decline in his psychological health. The constant stress and uncertainty that come with such a situation could take a toll on his mind, causing it to waver and eventually break down, or the predicament is akin to 'Nitrogen Narcosis', a condition that divers who breathe too much nitrogen gas in their tanks while under water.
He steps deeper into the murky recesses of his own mind, where the air is thick with a liquid darkness that presses against him. Each step stirs faint glimmers beneath his feet, like the bioluminescent algae disturbed on a quiet pond at night, casting soft glows in a pool of shadow. His movements create ripples in the dark water, expanding and fading, as though he's moving through a void suspended between light and shadow.
Ahead, a figure looms, shrouded in the thick gloom, still and silent. Ring approaches cautiously, and a single question slips from his lips: "Who... are you?"
The figure's shoulders lift in a lazy shrug, as if the answer is of little consequence. "Care to guess?"
The voice is his own. Ring's brow furrows, and his breath catches.
"Who?" he asks again, confusion sharpening into something darker, more desperate.
The figure pivots, stepping just enough into the faint glow to reveal his face. It's him—a perfect reflection, staring back at him with the same narrowed eyes, the same tension around the mouth. But this isn't a simple mirror image. This is something deeper, a manifestation of his fractured self, staring back at him with an intensity that borders on accusation.
The tension between them hums in the air. This wasn't a case of some run-of-the-mill doppelganger. What he was dealing with was a sentient fracture of a personality, having a mind of its own and everything. A split-personality or a multiple self all rolled into one. The original person's mind had fractured, creating an independent entity within, capable of acting and thinking separately.
