December 2012
It had been over year. An entire year!
The grief counseling had been really helpful to Minho, and Chan had contemplated whether Changbin and Hyunjin should go too, but Chan didn't push it.
Minho often felt like he was dreaming. His life had changed so much, so suddenly.
But now, it wasn't so stressful anymore.
Especially with Jeongin. Chan took care of him so well. He always knew what to do, and that was a huge relief to Minho.
Changbin was 13.
He knew it was childish to hope that his dad would come back, suddenly reappearing after all this time.
He was dead. Chan knew their dad was dead. Minho knew he was dead. And Changbin knew he was dead. At this point, even Hyunjin had come to terms with it, stating it as a fact. Changbin just didn't want to admit it.

Jisung, to his credit wasn't really being as annoying today as he usually was.
But Changbin was just not in the mood to be followed around and talked to endlessly.
Jisung was 6
"Jisung. Why don't you and Jeongin go to the park today? I'll get Hyunjin to go with you guys."
Jisung seemed thrilled with the idea and quickly ran to get Jeongin.
Hyunjin on the other hand...
"Ugh hyung. I don't want to go with them. Jisung is so. Ugh..."
"Please. Just this once. He's our brother now too."
"Just because our parents are dead, doesn't mean you can just order me around!"
"Yah. Watch your mouth. I'm warning you."
~~~~~~~
But Hyunjin was right. Their parents were dead.
Changbin never let his situation get him down too much. Despite being only 13, Chan joked that Changbin was the most emotionally mature out of all 8 of them.
He had a way of putting everyone's problems into perspective. But even still, he was only human.
Minho spent so much time taking care of his little brothers, Changbin would never let himself be yet another burden to Minho.
So when he was with Chan, it felt like he could be a bit more of a kid.
Chan really liked music. He had all kinds of instruments, and that was the thing that he, Chan and Jisung enjoyed doing together.
It was like their special little thing. Most nights they'd sit on Chan's bed and make up stupid little songs, until Jisung started to get tired and needed to be sent to bed. Jisung was a temperamental little guy. He cried at the slightest emotions. Changbin thought Jisung was probably a secret genius.
He could tell when Jisung would cry to manipulate people. Nothing got past Changbin. He observed everything.
And somehow this quality of being observant made Changbin Jisung's go to. He seemed cool to Jisung, and he wanted to be someone Jisung could look up to.
