July 2021

It was a hot summer's day. It was the first week of Summer holidays, and Chan had another month of work before he took his vacation time. Then they were all heading to Korea to visit.

Hyunjin had graduated, and he was planning to study graphic design next year.

Chan had been putting the pressure on him the last few months to get a job.

~~~
"You need to start saving up money, so you'll have to get a job." Chan said one night while he and Hyunjin sat on the couch, snacking.
Hyunjin looked up with annoyance.
"Can't I wait till I graduate?"
"No. How will you afford to pay for a course by next year?"
"Fine..." Hyunjin sighed.
"I'll help you make a resume tomorrow. What kind of job do you want?" Chan asked.
"I dunno. Like maybe a delivery person? Then I'd get to drive around at least. . ." Hyunjin said, unenthusiastically.
"Okay. Then you should look online for some job postings."
Hyunjin nodded. "I'll do it tomorrow."
~~~

Hyunjin started his job that spring. He worked after school in the afternoons for about a month.

Then once he graduated, he started working full time.

He'd keep this job until they went to Korea, and by the time they came back, he'd be starting his Graphic Design classes, and then he could work part time again.

(It wasn't really enough to pay for his course on his own, but it was definitely a big help)
~~~
Hyunjin came home from his delivery job. It was pretty late. It was just after 11:00 pm.
Thankfully he didn't have a curfew since he graduated, so he could do whatever he wanted.
Well. Not exactly. He still had to come home right after work. He was still 17 after all.
But he didn't have to go to bed by a certain time anymore.
And with this job, he had plenty of time to hang out with his friends on weekends, since he didn't work then.
He made a couple good friends at the restaurant too, so he was pretty happy.
But the best part of this job, was that he didn't have to wake up in the mornings.
He shuffled inside and headed straight to the kitchen.
He took the container of ice cream from the freezer, and he went to go lay on the couch.
He heard a small creak from one of the doors. Whoops. Maybe he was being too loud and woke someone up.
Jeongin tiredly waddled down the hallway, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
"Hi hyung." He said as he spotted Hyunjin.
"What's up, Innie?" Hyunjin asked.
Jeongin made his way over, and sat on the couch, facing Hyunjin.
"Nuthin'. I just heard you come home." He said sleepily.
"Oh. Well you should go back to sleep."
Jeongin's eyes fixed on Hyunjin's ice cream. He gulped. "Hyung, can I have some?" He asked as cutely as possible.
Hyunjin looked around. "Fine." He said, feeding Jeongin a spoonful, before taking another bite himself.
"Can I have some more? Please." Jeongin asked.
"Go get a spoon then." Hyunjin said.
Jeongin quietly ran to the kitchen and came back with a spoon. Then he plopped down loudly on the couch.
"Shh!" Hyunjin warned. "Appa's gonna hear you. Be quiet."
Jeongin giggled a little bit before digging in to the ice cream.
"Speaking of Appa. I was going to ask him, but I forgot. Anyway. Am I an orphan? Byron said I might be. But I'm not really sure. Am I?" Jeongin asked innocently, with wide eyes.
Hyunjin's brain stopped for a minute. "What? What do you mean?"
"Well, cuz I don't have parents. Am I an orphan?" Jeongin asked again.
"Well, no? Chan hyung adopted you." Hyunjin said.
"Because I was an orphan though, right?"
"Well, maybe technically. I guess so?"
"Hmm. Okay. I'll tell Byron then. I just wasn't sure."
"Why do you want to know if you're an orphan?" Hyunjin asked, still confused.
"Hyung, I told you why."
"Well I don't understand."
"Cuz me and Byron were talking about our parents, and he said I'm an orphan, and so I said "probably" but I wasn't totally sure." Jeongin explained.
"Oh. . . Right." Hyunjin said, still confused. "And what is he?"
"Well. He's not an orphan. Cuz he has a mom. But he doesn't have a dad either. I told him that maybe my dad could adopt him. Well, I meant Channie hyung. Cuz you know, my real dad is dead." Jeongin explained seriously.
Hyunjin burst out laughing. He set the ice cream on the coffee table so as not to drop it.
