February 2023
Chan and Amelia had been married for one month.
Amelia got a call one night from her sister.
Their mom had gotten really sick.
It didn't sound good.
Amelia needed to fly to Victoria to visit her.
She wasn't that close to her mom anymore, but she still had to be there.
She took a week off work, booked a plane ticket and flew out the next day.
This was the first time Byron had been without his mom for this long, and although it wasn't the first time he had to listen to Chan, it would end up being the first time Chan would have to enforce any rules.
Chan and Amelia had remade their house rules, although they were basically still the same, except they changed the consequences, since all the kids were older, and there was no need for spankings. They also agreed that if the kids got in trouble together, they should get the same punishment, regardless of who's kid is who's.
The triplets were also expected to be respectful, and listen to Amelia, but since they were older, they figured it would be best if Chan continued to discipline them on his own for the most part, since they would probably respond better to that.
Chan had explained why he takes the kids phones at night, and what he's trying to protect them from.
Amelia agreed that it was a good idea.
Surprisingly, she had never talked to Byron about online safety. She never assumed that he would be exposed to things when he was just a kid.
There was a lot that Amelia wasn't aware of when it came to teenage boys.
With Amelia's permission, Chan had sat down and had a talk about this with Byron and Jeongin together, although Jeongin had already heard his spiel several times.
It seemed to go over well, and Byron understood that he wasn't allowed to do certain things now that he lived here, although since he was still young, he never really did those things anyway.
The issue of putting the phone away at night though, seemed to be a cause for contention.
It was almost 10:00 pm.
"Boys, put your devices away now. It's time to go to bed." Chan said as he peaked in the bedroom.
Jeongin and Byron were sitting on Jeongin's bed, playing uno.
Once Chan left, Byron asked:
"Do we really have to give him our phones every single time?"
Jeongin nodded.
"But why?" Byron asked.
