Sebastian's pov
Shortly before the events in Astray

It had been a normal day. Ava was at the school with the twins so they could explore like Anne and I used to when we were toddlers. El was off doing whatever it is he does and I think Anne Poppy was with him, and I had a rare occurrence where I had a day off in the middle of the week.

I had been reading when there was a slow knock on the front door. I closed the book and set it in the coffee table before standing and walking to it. As I opened the door I saw the remnants of one of the door ways closing and fading away.

I looked at my feet and a letter and package sat with my name written on top in what looked like El's handwriting but it seemed shaky and rushed.

I picked it up and walked inside closing the door behind me. I put the package on the couch next to me and opened the letter. As I opened it I pulled my hand back realizing there was the small bit of blood on the back. Before I could register what happened the letter opened by itself forming in a mouth.

"Hello Sebastian," A much older sounding voice of my son huffed out as if in pain. "I'm sorry to tell you in this way and I hope you'll forgive me... but... I don't have a lot longer left." I sat down on the couch as the letter kept talking.

"Some major things are about to happen... and I know you remember them. Or maybe you forced yourself to forget. But I won't be here anymore...." He stopped talking as he let out a pained cry, "I'm not going to be around much longer. There's another El. One who isn't me or your El. He's different. He's... maybe he can be saved... mum always thought everyone could be saved.... He came right after you passed. I thought he was your El and like a fool I welcomed him while trying to hide the fact of your passing... but he killed my mum. And he... he may have killed me. Anne's fine. Anne didn't want me to worry any of you. She's not happy right now but she'll heal..." I could feel my jaw hanging open as he spoke. Ava killed? Eleazar killed?

"That won't happen for about ten years.. but you need to be ready. Now listen carefully since I won't be able to repeat this. Save your memories so when Ava in your time passes you can retrieve them and help El save her. Then... then you'll pass... it'll be hard on Mum and the twins and Anne... I... I wanted so badly to go look for another you. There has to be one out there... the worlds are infinite.

Try to slip the contents of the package to El this will train him to do something new with his ancient magic," I opened the package and there was a black leather bound book. I flipped through the pages and saw every single page was covered in hand writing. "It took me years to learn this and I hope this will make it easier for him. You'll see me once more... but he'll be a younger more hopeful me..."

"Thank you, Sebastian...." I noticed his voice sounded more labored and strained. He was fading. "For saving my sister and I when you were no older then 7th years...." He let out a wet breath... "I ... I trust no one else with this...I..." suddenly the letter ripped itself up landing in a pile on the coffee table.

I sat in silence looking at the pile and the journal. I opened the first page as it read;

Memory connection (name to be determined)

I scoffed while trying to not make myself cry more. Hell I didn't even have time cry as the front door suddenly busted open and El ran in. He dropped a bunch of books on the coffee table and ran to the restroom yelling a 'hi' as he went by.

I quickly wiped my face and made myself look normal just in time as El walked back in with a relieved Sigh. "Sorry, dad. I know, no work on the coffee table," he picked up all the books and began to go to his room.

"El, wait. You missed one." I said jumping to my feet and placing it on top of his file.

He smiled at me, " ah thanks! I got some more reading material today!"

"From?"

He slammed his mouth shut as he looked at me. "....places,"

I shook my head and kissed the side of his head, "go,"

He giggled and ran to his room, "thank you, dad. Love you!" He yelled over his shoulder.

I stood at the end of the hallway still holding the torn letter in my hand, "...I love you, too."
