The house was magnificently decorated, Dame's sister Jess had come down a day early with her family to help set up and throw these lush decorations around that I'd ordered. Hazel and Keith were due in a few hours, roughly 5pm from what I could remember. It was a whirl of people moving around everywhere, I loved having Dame's family around as its never anything I'd experienced before with my lot. I eventually began to call Hazel mum and Keith dad over the years of knowing them. They really are my family.
Even after 30 years of being welcomed by such lovely humble people, we all get on like a house on fire. From the off I clicked with Jess instantly, so easy to talk to and since then has been a sister to me. Hazel is so cute and for a little lady she's full of wisdom and beauty, and as for Keith still cracking jokes as usual and all these qualities together I can see where my Dame brings all these elements together in his personality, love love love it. I stood back a moment while he helped Jess reach a higher area of the ceiling to stick the end of twinkly lights up, and just soaked in everything while having a quick sip of my sparkly champagne.
There's nothing better in the world that having loved ones around you. Definitely.
The evening whirled by with a mix of laughter, games including charades and just chatting over the traditional TV and of course Jools Holland Hootenanny to count down.
We all began chanting countdown where we have all gathered on the balcony to see fireworks...
"10!!! ... 9!!!!....8!!!...."
"Another year done with you and the kids by my side" Dame further tightened his grip around me and kissed me on the lips many times...
"7!!!!...6!!....5!!...."
"Awww I know, here's to many many more my love", I smiled with tears in my eyes and kissed him again.
"4!!!....3!!!...2!!!...1!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!"
We all cheered and looked out to the magical display of colour and sound...
"Happy New Year everyone!"
