9 - The Party

Maryanne's POV

I was so excited to attend an event such as this and to mingle with my peers who have all been inspiring to me.

I'd been there for a while already and with the flow of free alcohol I'd started to feel just a little tipsy but it helped calm my nerves on my first time at aj event like this. So I found my seat at the table with my name card sipping my glass of champagne taking in the scene around me, it was quite overwhelming and the band hadn't arrived yet. My worries were forgotten about when the incredibly badass Saffron Sprackling of Republica came over and sat down next to me.

"Hi I'm Saffron, huuuge fan of your work", she went to hug me and I hugged her back. "You don't need to introduce yourself I know who you are!" I rambled shocked back. Saffron looked amazing, not going to lie, she's been a major girl crush of mine for a while...she's even more stunning in the flesh!

"I've just been enjoying the free drinks", I laughed to Saffron. "Same here really, hmm was thinking perhaps you'd like to feature on a Republica track some time? Let me know, I'll give you my number please reach out it'd be amazing."  We exchanged numbers, how crazy! Saffron!

"I'm just going to find the toilet, the beer has gone straight through me, back in a sec", Saffron rolled her eyes.

After Saffron left her seat and disappeared into the crowd of people I looked at the other names at our table and saw that Damon's was next to me and on the other side was Alex then Dave and Graham...but next to Damon was Justine?? No clue who she is...must be someone in the management team who I've not met yet.

As she left, I sat back in my seat again when in comes Damon and a rather indie rocker looking girl, then by the rest of Blur...finally they'd arrived.

The awards were due to start shortly so they came over to the table and Damon introduced the girl as Justine his girlfriend. GIRLFRIEND?? He'd never mentioned anything about having a girlfriend...not that I was bothered or anything, just surprised is all.

"Oooh, you're Maryanne the singer who's supporting the guys on tour? I've heard so much about you," Justine said raising her voice a little over the surrounding noise. "Only good things I hope?" I joked back. I looked to Damon who looked a bit embarrassed and also kinda awkward, the others were already talking among themselves and looking at the refreshments menu on the table. Damon had an expression of what I could only make out as guilt? But as Justine was still looking at me I somehow managed to keep as neutral a face as possible and decided to keep friendly conversation while the chatter started to die down.

Music came on and the host entered stage and this was our cue to sit down, as Damon took his seat he looked at me and I looked back at him with an expression with one eyebrow raised...well, this was going to be an interesting night....
