Author's POV

Janhvi enters the kitchen, where Sakshi is cooking. Sakshi's face shows signs of hurt from the earlier conversation with Neelam.

Janhvi: (softly) "Sorry, Ma."

Sakshi: (turning to her daughter, surprised) "Why are you saying sorry, Laado? You have done nothing wrong."

Janhvi: (looking down) "No, Ma. If I didn't act stubbornly..."

Sakshi: (smiling, hugging her daughter) "You have done nothing wrong. Come, I've prepared your favorite pav bhaji today. Taste them and tell me how they are."

Janhvi: (her face lighting up) "Wow, Ma! You are the best!" (taking a bite) "Ma, this is the best pav bhaji, I have eaten recently. You should participate in MasterChef; you would win for sure!"

Sakshi: (laughing) "No matter how much you butter me up, I'm not going to say yes."

Janhvi: (jumping down from the counter) "Ma, please, just three days, Ma, please!"

Sakshi: (chuckling) "Okay, eat first, and we'll see."

Janhvi: (hugging her mother) "Thank you, Ma!"

Sakshi: (smiling) "I haven't said yes yet, Jaanu, so don't get too excited."

Janhvi: (nodding happily and leaving the kitchen) "I know you will, Ma."

Coming out of the kitchen Janhvi sits beside her grandmother, Subhadra, who whispers curiously.

Subhadra: "Did your Ma say yes?"

Janhvi: (confidently) "Not yet, but she will."

Sakshi brings tea for everyone and calls her sons, who had left in anger, forgetting their phones at home. She serves tea and addresses Karishma.

Sakshi: "Do you want to have pakoras or pav bhaji, Karishma? I made them for snacks."

Karishma: (glancing at Janhvi's plate, replying dismissively) "Sorry, Mami, I can't eat those fatty foods with lots of butter and oil dripping off. If you feed me like this, I'll end up fat like Janhvi."

Janhvi: (hurt, but retorting) "Karishma Didi, my body is healthy, not fat. I look healthy in whatever way I am, but you look like a patient. Maybe Bua doesn't cook tastily."
