For once, they were all sitting together again, in the Great Hall, just like the old days. Oh, how Sera was relieved to see Ron and Hermione getting along together again! There was no more romantic tension against the two of them, and that made Sera incredibly happy.
In the meanwhile, Ron was making it snow. Sera wasn't sure if he knew it or not, until Hermione gently chided him.
"Stop it, Ronald! You're making it snow!"
"Right. Sorry. So, tell me. How did I break up with Lavender again?"
"Well, um. . . . she came to visit you while you were still out of it," Sera explained, jumping in at once. "And, obviously, you talked — but in your sleep. I don't think that it was a particularly long conversation."
"Don't get me wrong," Ron pointed out, "I'm bloody thrilled to get rid of her. But . . . . doesn't she seem to be a bit put out?"
They glanced over casually at the Ravenclaw table, where Lavender Brown was sitting far, far away. Tears of hurt and anger were in her eyes, and she looked ready to break a spoon at some point. Sera couldn't help but smirk.
"Yeah. Yeah, she does. Doesn't she?"
They sat there in silence until they noticed a group of girls surrounding another girl. When Sera got a closer look, she could distinctly see the familiar dark-brown color of none other than Katie Brown's hair.
"Harry — it's Katie Bell! Should we go say 'hi'?"
Harry nodded, not saying another word. They both sprang to their feet and approached Katie. Her friends were still surrounding her, chattering excitedly, welcoming her back. But when they saw Sera and Harry approaching her, they quickly left. Sera was the first to speak up.
"How are you?"
"I'm doing better, thanks. They let me out of St. Mungo's this morning." She turned to her brother. "Harry, I know what you're going to be asking me. And no, I don't remember who cursed me."
"Are you sure you —?" Sera began. But she cut herself short when she saw her brother looking over at someone.
Draco Malfoy was coming down the aisle. But when he caught sight of Katie Bell, alive, Sera immediately noticed that his face drained entirely of color. Then he turned, and fled.
"Stay here," she demanded her brother.
Before Harry could even open his mouth to protest, Sera took off, quickly following after Malfoy. Although she had disagreed with her brother about the fact that Draco Malfoy was behind the attacks, it was very clear when she saw the look of horror written all over his face, that he was the one behind the culprit all along.
Sera ran after him. She saw him take a left turn and bolted behind him. He slammed the male's bathroom door shut in her face. But she didn't hesitate to wrench the bathroom door open. She froze when she came face-to-face with an ill Malfoy, who looked as though he had been crying.
But she shoved the thoughts out of her head and drew out her wand. He had hurt a fellow classmate. Sure, she knew that he hadn't intended on hurting her friends on purpose. But Katie Bell being cursed by Malfoy was the last straw.
"You were the one who hexed her. Didn't you? Katie?" she accused, aiming her wand at him with a shaking hand. "And Ron."
"You have to understand, Potter," the blonde boy stuttered in fear. "I had to! I had no other choice! He'll kill me and my family if I don't succeed in carrying out my plot! He'll hunt down my cousin and kill him if I don't succeed!"
But Sera was not going to hear it. She has had enough of Malfoy's nonsense. In response, she aimed a spell at him in her head. And then another.
Malfoy tried to escape, but Sera wasn't going to let him. Not until she got the entire truth out of him. Then, she remembered a spell that her brother had mentioned to her a while back. It was her only chance of defending herself.
