Reset? (7)

When I sit here, alone, calm and at ease; everything feels like it's exactly as it needs to be.

Sans was in his lab. He sat beside the computer writing in his notebook. Whenever he picked up that pen, he hardly needed to think, the words came to him naturally.

But, when I'm out there among the monsters, it feels different. It feels...temporary. Like it could be taken away at any moment. And that's true.

It's been a year. He kept on reminding himself that. But history happened. The past exists. What happened before can happen again.

It's unlikely, yes. But factually speaking, who is to say that in the 776 other times the world has been rewinded, what if we made it here? What if we spent years on the surface, and Frisk got bored and reset. No one would know.

Its unlikely. Very. Frisk needed his help to get to this point. But facts are facts.

Going outside, it feels nice. It makes me happy. Well, it should. But nothing feels right. Or real. I thought that the day I felt the sun shine upon me and the day I could walk in the green forests alongside my brother would be the most magnificent day of my life. Like a fairytale. It would be my dreamland. And I would live in it for the rest of my life.

And now, I live in this dreamworld. On the surface, beneath the sun with the forest just outside the door. Everyone else enjoys it. They love it. Papyrus adores it all. But I can't bring myself to truly cherish it. Because at any moment, it might go.

Sans finally paused. He didn't want to write anymore.

And then, he picked up the pen one more time.

I think. If I want to live freely, properly and happily. If I want to drop the fake, happy...painful facade I've kept up all this time.

I guess

"I'll have to face my fears, won't I."

Frisk wasn't exactly surprised when Sans showed up out of the blue to invite them over for Grillby's. Its a common occurrence.

Actually, they were more surprised when he showed up out of the blue.

Frisk tugged at his shirt, with a confused expression.

"oh, my jacket?" He smirked slightly. "that's a funny story. i-uh, lost it." He replied without looking back at Frisk.
"yeah, no punchline. it's not really all that funny."

Frisk wasn't too convinced.

Frisk looked around them. They were walking just down the road from Toriels house. Everything was so lively, bright and overall...lovely. It was something for everyone to be proud of.

The underground was in the past. Now, monsters looked up to the sky, blue as ever. The children played and talked under the protection of the clouds and stars.

Sans met their gaze, he smiled slightly, but when it reminded him of what he was about to do, it became a grimace.

"hey kid, we're here." He snapped them out of their thoughts. He opened the door and gestured for them to enter.
