Frisk tried to push their palm out, force something through - anything! They'd release the effort when hearing the reprimanding voice in their head.

No, no! How many times, Frisk?

Right, it's a spell and not real magic.

Yes, so stop trying to use actual magic and listen to me!

Frisk wouldn't be able to deny that they weren't trying to use some sort of magic. The spell didn't seem all that fun, anyway. When they learnt that they feasibly could do some sort of magic and their partner gave a vague description on how to do it, they kinda blocked their words out and attempted to force magic akin to their friends.

Just envision an ACT button, but place some Determination in the mix. It's about intent, so imagine trying to delve into someone's - or somethings essence. You understand?

..."put Determination in the mix?" What does that even mean?

Frisk sighed alongside their partner. They finally retracted their hand and stood in the grass clearance alone, bouncing on their toes.

I've been saying the same thing for twenty minutes and NOW you question it?

Just feel the heat that Determination causes. You've used it. You know what I mean. Call on it, will it into your control like before. And use it a bit.

Frisk thought they understood. They tried to envision the ACT button, placing their hand like they were pressing it. They tried to close their eyes to promote some sort of focus.

You gotta keep them open to see it.

Trying not to lose focus, they reopened their eyes. It seemed almost real, the button infront of them. They pressed it once more.

CHECK.

Feeling a burning rush they only occasiated with dying, they pressed the white highlighted letters. And then, a short bright light entered their vision.

It was certainly bright, but didn't blind them. They looked around, seeing the world in black and white. They looked into buildings, seeing hovering SOUL'S and text they couldn't read from so far out. They laughed.

"I did it. And it's actually really cool."

Hardly thinking about the fact that they spoke out loud.

It is.

They turned, keeping their hand on the imaginary button. They swivelled, looking through buildings. They hardly thought about the moral implications of having this sort of spell that definitely felt a tad bit invasive. Nearly making a full 180, they noticed a floating SOUL right besides them.

It was red, but hardly glowing. It was almost fully transparent, hiding away. It didn't have much writing underneath it. Frisk looked down, attempting to read what little information was there. And then, they felt a tug as their vision returned and their information was lost.

I'm not dumb, it's your SOUL.

What's left of it.

Frisk stayed still, unsure what to make of their discovery. Their partners lack of a functioning SOUL. The state of it supported the theory of VOID stealing the Determination, at least.

They decided not to dwell. Instead, they focused on the fact that they successfully performed a highly advanced spell in less than an hour.

It will be useful.
