Frisk approached Asgore's shop by around 4 PM. It was a 20 minute walk across town. Normally, Frisk would have asked someone for a lift, but they just simply didn't feel like it. Truth to be told, they felt uneasy. They thought back to the short "conversation" they had with Flowey.
He mentioned looking into it himself...
Meaning that whatever he was looking for was hidden so well, that even having total time manipulation powers weren't enough to uncover it.
So what makes him think I can do it?
Frisk, throughout the entire walk, thought it through. All the possibilities, what's hidden and what does it mean.
Is this worth looking into so thoroughly?
Yes. Don't be silly, partner.
So many conflicting thoughts...
Frisk hardly even noticed that they were inside the shop, the floral aroma notified them. Frisk noticed the lack of a fluffy giant behind the counter, replaced by a worker. Frisk gave them a warm smile, the worker was always friendly towards them whenever they visited.
Frisk assumed that Asgore was in the upstairs living quarters if he wasn't downstairs in the shop at this busy time. They invited themselves through the stairs and found him in his room alone, reading a book.
Frisk would never mention it to him, but Frisk found his living situation rather sad.
Kings had castles, this king did have a castle. But now? Just a 12ft by 12ft square single room on top of a flower shop to live in. It was hardly decorated, as bland as his home in the underground. Pictures of his new family placed around in the open to smile at, but Frisk often found pictures of Asriel and the first human with Asgore and Toriel hidden in his wardrobe. There was something written on the frame, but it was too far to read. Still, Frisk could make it that it was a five letter word.
He was sitting next to a desk, book in hand. His large fur-covered hands blocked Frisk from reading the name of it. He heard light footsteps approaching and looked up, noticing his child's presence.
"Frisk! I haven't seen you in such a long time!" He instantly stood up and picked Frisk a couple feet up off the floor and wrapped them in a tight, cosy hug for a couple seconds. Frisk never ever minded. His homemade knitted sweaters he was always wearing made these hugs even cosier, and that's also including his natural fluffiness.
He finally placed Frisk down, and then the book down on the desk he was sitting next to prior. "So! What brings you here? You've caught me on a legally required break right now." He asked, with a smile that almost felt as permanent as Sans's.
Frisk pondered for a moment, before deciding on what to say. They resorted to something they had thought up on the walk over. "I've decided to do a history trip, asking many people questions on monster history!" They excited exclaimed towards Asgore, who smiled at the idea. It wouldn't be put past Frisk to decide to do something so random and silly. This worked in their favor.
Just then, they got a message from Papyrus. They took a glance at their phone and decided to read it later.
"Monster history, huh?" He chuckled. "I believe I'm one of the best people you could've asked, then. But you have to be more specific." Asgore invited a follow up.
"Royal scientists!" Frisk simply replied. To Frisk surprised, Asgore flinched at the answer. It was extremely slight, but his smile definitely faltered briefly.
