Humans and monsters didn't always get along. A human and monster interaction was always hit or miss, a fifty/fifty. Sure, they could walk past eachother and no one would bat an eye, but a proper interaction wasn't as easy. Ebbot's entrance (or exit) was an infamous tourist attraction. There was always people surrounding it, taking a look. Furthermore, the Underground was off limits for the most part. Occasionally, people would sneak in but it seemed like somehow, they were always found and brought back out. Fortunately, the same rules didn't apply for monsters with passes. Sans had one.

But, he still couldn't get through the entrance. Tons of humans lingered and last time Alphys tried to just walk past them, it didn't go so well. She wasn't injured, and no one was injured at all really. There was just lots of shouting and arguing from everyone. Hence, Sans went the other way. Not many knew, but there was that one small entrance right at the top that lead to the Ruins. Still, he couldn't just jump.

Well, the humans survived.

But Sans wasn't human, so he allowed one small shortcut down, like always.

Keep the promise, though.

Sans strolled through, enjoying the darkness of the walls. In his adventure back in time, he felt mesmerised by the sheer emptiness. And still, he felt himself being drawn closer and closer.

"You're acting weird, Sans."

The voice brought him back to reality. Sans leapt away from the wall, wondering when he got so close.

"course you're here, it's your place after all." Sans didn't really want to talk much, he had a task to complete. Still, he didn't really want Flowey tagging along, so he acted casual.
"y'know, i haven't checked the Ruins out for quite a while. mind i take a look?"

After Flowey banned him from the Ruins months prior for a single horrible pun, Sans hadn't been able to take a look. Sure, he could have slipped right past him, but he obeyed the ban to avoid conflict. He also never had any reason to go to the Ruins anyway. His small fight with the flower was the furthest he had ever travelled inside the Ruins in a while.

"Why." Flowey wasn't blind to him having a motive. His eyes followed the skeleton as he paced the room, eventually twisting his body as Sans walked past him.

He observed the purple framed door.

"surely you've made some changes? they were quite bland as far as i remember."

"As if you're here to look around. If you're here, it's important, yes?" Flowey cut to the chase. Sans sighed, knowing he'd have to admit something to Flowey. As he turned, he watched as Flowey smiled, already knowing he'd won.

"it is. let me through?" He gestured to the door he stood besides.

"Fine. It's temporary, you still aren't unbanned." Flowey let him leave, before remembering what he forgot. "Hey, wait! What's so important in the ruins?!"

"just passing through."

Sans kept a decent pace as he strolled through the hallways. He observed the brighter atmosphere and the floral invasion across all the rooms. Occasionally, he'd cross paths with some monsters. Some Froggits, Whimsums, Moldsmalls but
occasionally a former Guard or mercenary. Sans already knew the reason.

Tons of monsters hated humanity with an undying passion. They were eager to live on the surface at first, intent on preparing for war. When Asgore revealed peaceful intentions, these rare batches of monsters retreated far into the depths of the Underground, fleeing the exit. They were probably plotting his demise here.
