Sans took a shaky step forward. When VOID didn't react, he took another. The crunching feeling under his shoes echoing endlessly in the enclosed walls of the Underground. In this moment, he realised how much he hated VOID. The way it seemingly never reacted normally, always conniving, unstable and unbeatable. But then, somehow, it refused to obey by the expected logic. It shouldn't even be harmable, but here they were. Not that he would complain.

Then, another step. Sans looked down for a moment, feeling unbalanced. He found that his legs were shaking. Then, he realised he was shaking violently. Then, he finally noticed. He was scared.

Sans was rarely truly scared. He couldn't remember a moment in recent history that made he feel horrified. Horrified for his life. Yet, he knew deep down that running, stopping, giving up - giving in wouldn't help anyone. Only a couple more steps and he would be able to read the information.

VOID'S mortifying eyes stared him down. Sans moved his head slightly, his gaze narrowed when VOID's glowing pupils twitched and followed the movement. One more step.

Sans could make out some words.

"VOID" - ATK 66666 DEF 66666 HP 666666

He barely gave it a thought. He had seen this, he knew this already. What he was focused on was the description. It would detail VOID and it's weird SOUL.

Sans could clearly see the SOUL. It was eerie. Still. Most SOULS naturally moved slightly, being tugged by the magic flow inside the body. However, like VOID, the SOUL didn't move an inch. Sans almost shuddered, wondering when the nightmare would end.

Not yet, though.

He still needed to do one last thing.

One last step.

He took it, finding himself about ten metres away from his enemy. He could make out the text.

Corrupted and lost. Detached from its original magic source, yet it remains fighting for life.

Sans frowned. That didn't sound like VOID. It confused him more than anything, but maybe he could piece together some sort of meaning later. Sans let go of his magic, taking a breath as energy returned to him, alongside his vision. He kept a straight face, wondering his next move.

Escape.

He heard it like a warning.

He took a quick glance at VOID, noticing his smile broadening. He then turned and fled, using all his agility to run at a speed he'd never known he was capable of. He never was that fast, for obvious reasons. Still, at any other moment, he would have been grateful at the burst of pace his adrenaline had gifted him. The gratefulness would never had lasted as after a solid ten seconds of darting through trees and leaving a trail of broken snow, he skidded to a halt.

"What's the rush for?"

Sans gave a blank look, attempting to hide the terror in his face. Clearly, he was in VOID'S home territory. He felt outclassed.

"alright. what do you want?" Sans asked with little expectancy. After all, he had already asked this question.

"You already know."

Sans thought he knew. But, if they were actually in his SOUL, then wouldn't VOID already have access to it? And, if they were inside his SOUL, why did VOID have so much control.

"you returned my Determination..."

"YOU DONT UNDERSTAND JUST YET, BUT I COMPLETED MY TASK."

"...just to take it away later?" Sans looked puzzled. VOID found ways to extend its smile further and further, like it was enjoying his confusion and the chaos it caused.
