Sans swiftly got to work. He opened the hidden compartment of the lab and got to work. Like muscle memory, like instinct, he worked with sharpness and precision no one would ever expect from him.
Muscle memory, because for maybe hundreds of resets, he'd done this all. The same progress countless times before he figured out how impossible it would be to finish the machine. But still, nevertheless, he remembered what to do.
The blueprints stayed in their compartment. He had copies in his brain. Every piece of the puzzle; all the gears, materials, wires, batteries, everything was already there. Sans had left everything he would need, waiting for the day when he would need it.
He worked for hours. The machine would never be finished in one day. It was a long term project. The VOID Retriever, the first original version, took months to build, although that had multiple prototypes and wasn't following a completed blueprint like Sans was. Still, not an easy or short task to accomplish alone.
*Ringg Ringggggg*
The sound of a phone ringing broke Sans out of his trance. He flinched at the sound slightly before diverting his attention away from the VOID Retriever and picking up the phone. He took a quick glance at the caller before answering.
"Brother! Where on earth are you at this hour! You said you were going to Grillby's with Frisk, but it's been hours!" Papyrus shouted at his phone without taking a single breath. He paused for a breath before continuing. "What on earth have you been doing for all this time! It's been hour-" Sans finally interjected.
"yeah, i heard that the first time, paps. just took a nap, is all." Sans lied, like second nature. "have you seen the park nearby? nice fields, might take some land and make a bed."
"The park? A nap? Seriously?????" Papyrus almost barked at his phone this time. "Sans... get back home." He calmed down with the last sentence, processing that his brother was completely fine and not lost or kidnapped or worse.
"will do." Sans spoke and hung up. Finally, the hours of movement seemed to attack his body and he felt tired and absolutely exhausted. In this state, he hardly thought before taking a shortcut home and crashed into his bed. The fatigue swept through his body, and he fell into a deep, peaceful slumber.

"NGAAHHH, DESTROY IT FRISK!!!" Undyne spoke with pure passion and might. Frisk, on the other hand, was rather tame with their expression.
It was nearing afternoon and Frisk's weekly training session with Undyne. Normally, Papyrus would join them too, but he was apparently too busy planning a secret party.
It did not cross his mind that by exchanging that information, he had ruined the secret part of a secret party.
In the present, Frisk stared the golden flower down, wondering whether to abide by Undynes commands and strike it down with their feat or to spare the innocent flower.
Frisk chose the latter.
"Ugh, Frisk! You don't understand! The flower, in my hypothetical, is a terrible beast capable of immense danger. You would be doing the world a favour by killing it off!" Undyne ranted with playful but slightly real anger.
Frisk pondered the hypothetical, realising just how familiar it was.
"I'd spare them, because they surely are redeemable. Maybe they just have to be exposed to kindness." Frisk answered with honesty, recalling what they did with Flowey.
Undyne just scoffed, but didn't argue it. Because she knew Frisks relentless determination would fight back even harder.
The two continued their "training" by going on a walk. It led them to a familiar forest. It was the same forest where the abandoned cabins lied. No one really explored around here, and no one had a real need to. Either way, Undynes curiosity to see whether something interesting was hiding in these parts was far too strong.
