Darting my eyes around rapidly, my throat burning from hunger, I watch as my fellow newborns, as Riley called us, are torn apart by the Cullen clan and great big wolves. I fall backwards into the underbrush of the forest, following the movements of anything close by, growls and hissing rings in my ears. Glancing around, I make a split-second decision, getting to my feet and running as fast and far as I could, which proved to be much more than I initially thought. Ducking under branches and hurdling over fallen trees, I dash though the foliage, not processing my surroundings immediately, my brain moving my feet, following closely to the scent of food. Of blood.

...

Leaning over the large deer, my prey, I sink my teeth into its shredded neck, sucking the blood into my mouth, coating the inside of my throat. I moan at the taste, the liquid slowly satisfying my desire, quenching my thirst. Gazing at the small black eyes of the creature, I feel a twinge of remorse in my heart, but before I can let the feeling fully sink in, I hear the sound of wind rushing by. I squint my eyes, not yet adjusted to the ability of seeing in the dark. Wiping the blood from the corner of my mouth, I cautiously straighten, standing properly now, whipping my head in any direction of any noise my ears pick up. Hearing several large whooshes behind me, I turn, coming face to face with several of the resident vampires. I gasp, my eyes going wide in fear as I stumble backwards, clumsy falling over a set of larger sticks, backing up into a larger boulder. The dark brown haired vampire approaches me slowly, kneeling down to my level.

"It's alright. We're not going to hurt you. You're safe." I gulp harshly at her words.

"...safe..?" She nods, holding out a hand for me to take when ready, a caring and motherly smile on her lips. I carefully take it, a subtle smile reaching my face.
