"sunsets i wanna hear your voice, a love nobody could destroy"
august, 2022.
A WEEK AFTER THE BREAK UP, SHE WAS IN BOSTON. To be honest, Cameron didn't want to be here, she was sick of being here, she was so over giving this city and the people in her time. The team already knew her decision, but of course everyone else in the world fucking needed to know about it too. Her parents are in the audience again with her coach like they were last time, and her parents don't know she's going to UConn. She probably should've gone there to begin with. She thinks that's what her dad might say. She didn't know what she was actually going to go to school for now as she was only ever an athlete. She could stick with being a business major, like almost every other student athlete, but regular school just isn't fun.
Klaus told her she should come work for one of the teams, but she didn't know anything about that type of stuff. She couldn't be a physical therapist because she wasn't into kinesiology, or science for that matter. Azzi suggested she could be a social media manager, but Cameron isn't so sure if that's her thing either. Bek suggested she could help assist the UConn hockey coach, and learn from her. That's not a terrible idea, but Cameron is an athlete. She may not play hockey anymore, but that doesn't diminish the fact that she constantly wants to play a sport or something like that. She'll figure it out.
She takes a deep breath as she sits down at the press conference table that she will thankfully never have to sit at again. There's a sea of red Northeastern shirts and microphone in her face as all of the reporters look ready to ask her a million questions, and she's sure all of them will be stupid.
"So, Cameron, it's been 5 months since your injury. Has there been update since then?"
"Uh, no. This is me formally saying I'm retiring from college hockey. Doctor says it's too much of a risk for me."
"Are you going to continue to attended Northeastern?"
"No. I'm going to be transferring to a different school." There's a few audible gasps from the audience, she can feel her dad's eyes burning into her. She knows what the next question is going to be. "I'm going to UConn."
"Are you going to pursue hockey there, if you can?"
"Behind the bench, maybe. I've been told I might be a good coach one day, so, I'll think about that."
"Were there any other factors that made you want to leave Northeastern?"
She knits her eyebrows together as she's not sure of how to answer this question without being an asshole, but she doesn't really care anymore. "There's a lot of people who say a lot things that they don't know about. I know that I was a great contributor to this team and plenty of my teammates and coach can vouch for that. I think that Boston is a fantastic city, but I think I need a change of scenery."
"Can you explain that a little more?"
She doesn't want to. "The atmosphere here was great, the games were always fun whether we won or lost. It's okay to move on when things don't work out and I think that's what this is, pretty much." She's not going to sit here and say how the fans are assholes and some of her teammate dislike her because she's better than them and they're jealous, she wants the best for them all, really, so there's no point. "A lot of people think that this team might be better without me, so I guess I'm giving a lot of these new players a chance to grow and be better."
