"and what the hell were we? tell me we weren't just friends, this doesn't make much sense, no...
...but i'm not hurt, i'm tense cause i'll be fine without you, babe... all of your friends have been here for too long, they must be waiting for you to move on..."
the second week of june, 2021.
CAMERON ARKO TRUTHFULLY STARTED TO WONDER IF HER PARENTS HATED HER. She had absolutely no idea when her parents stopped listening to her, but it was really starting to piss her off. They were really nice to Emily and Spencer which is what the twins were thankful for, but other than that, it seemed like some act. Cameron felt like a puppet in her own home. Her dad wouldn't speak to her unless if Emily was in the same room as her, he was on the fence with Klaus since he didn't win shit at UConn— yet. Her mom was a little overbearing at times, personal space and privacy didn't exist anymore apparently. Cameron can't remember when Minnesota stopped feeling like home.
"It'll be nice to have Paige over today, don't you think, Cam? We haven't seen her since graduation." Cameron tensed at the words her mother just spoke. She couldn't figure out how to answer to that as Paige was the last person she wanted to be around. Especially with Emily here. It was a disaster waiting to happen.
"She's coming over?" Klaus had thankfully just walked into the kitchen to save her from the awkwardness of this conversation with their mother. "Like just her? Or.."
"Klaus don't be silly. The whole family."
"I don't think that's a good idea, Mom."
Their mother faces the both of them with a confused expression which they couldn't blame her for, there was never a time they said no to Paige and her family coming over. "Why not?"
Klaus and Cameron looked at each other before looking at their mother, who was waiting for a fair answer. Emily had just walked into the kitchen too, which was perfect timing. "Emily's not feeling well." Cameron ignores the puzzled gaze from her girlfriend.
"What? I'm f-" Cameron cuts her girlfriend off by elbowing her in the stomach, getting a groan out of her as she hunches over, Klaus holds back a laugh.
"See? I told you. She's not feeling well."
Their mother raises the both of her eyebrows out of confusing and a little bit of concern as she goes back to making lunch. "Maybe she just needs to lay down, then. I can't revoke their invite. We've told them no every day this week, they're going to start getting suspicious if we say no again."
The reason why Cameron thinks her parents hate her is because she— and Klaus and both said no several times when their parents wanted to invite Paige and her family over. They didn't need to know about the stupid drama that was going on between the 19 year olds, but, their kids saying no should've been enough.
"But Mom, Emily is so sick." Klaus tries to sell the lie to the best of his ability, but she always knows when they're lying.
"So so so sick." Cameron wraps a supportive arm around Emily's shoulders, kissing her forehead as an apology for elbowing her in the stomach.
"Cameron. Behave." Her mother reprimands her, giving Klaus a warning look as he opens his mouth, causing him to close it immediately.
