Skye held the neclace in the air, sitting atop the grass of the front yard. It emitted an orange glow. It hurt to stare for too long. She had tried to brute force it, to see whatever it would do. That didn't work.
Mateo bent his legs and crouched down in front of her, making an unnerving amount of eye contact. "It's been a while, hasn't it? Ahh, it pains me that you didn't even visit once!" he complained, feigning sadness. Though clearly, Mateo didn't seem to care if anyone visited him in that hospital at all. Perhaps he'd rather no one did.
"Why're we spending so much time on this necklace, anyway? Lets do something more fun..." Mateo suggested, sparing a glance at his surroundings."It's been a week," she said, exhasperated. Rolling her eyes, she swung it around. "This could be important." Mateo was the same as ever, it seemed...
Kai stood in the front yard, tuffed ears twitching towards each sound around him as his tail swung gently. Hands shoved into the cargo pants he wore, the flamewing gazed about, yawning. Flashing long, sharp canines before his lips pressed together in a thin line. The teen was tired per usual.
He eyed the glowing necklace with narrowed eyes, not even remembering where Skye picked up the thing. He wasn't quite sure what was happening, having been far too disconnected from school for the past few weeks.
Rubbing his nape, he glanced at the classmates gathered, blinking as people made suggestions regarding how to deal with the mysterious necklace. "Set it ablaze." he grumbled, making his own half-hearted suggestion. The girl tossed the necklace over to her friend, before backing up a good distance. Would fire even melt it? Who knew. For the other suggestions, she had already checked. Inspecting it, having someone with better eyesight inspect it, casting spells on it. Whatever.
Kai caught it, a tad surprised but went through with his suggestion. Cupping the artifact in his hands, blue flames soon engulfed them for a few seconds as he wondered if it'll even melt. Only one way to find out. To maybe no one's surprise, he held it up once the flames vanished, completely unscathed. He tossed it back to Skye with a shrug. Nothing.
Naturally, she didn't catch the necklace. Letting it fall into the grass. Then she blasted it with a bunch of a wind to cool it down, before scooping it up. The engravings from before were still there. "How gentleman-ly of you Kai, best friend in the world." She winked.
"Ah, sorry." He quickly apologized, not realizing how hot the necklace could be after the fire treatment.
She did all she could. Without even looking, she gave it to the Skywing next to her. Vaguely remembering him and his tomfoolery in the Luminous Library.
Soren walked up to Skye. He observed the necklace and then got it chucked at him. He fumbled with it a bit before catching it. He shot skye an annoyed glance, and looked around.
"Uhhm.. maybe.. we need to cut the jewel? Some rocks are easily broken by metal I think."
Soren took out a knife from his boot and sliced the jewel.. nothing happened. He tossed it back to Skye with a shrug. She blinked. It had been 15 seconds, and it was already back in her hands! Sighing slightly, she turned to the other estatic freshman. "Wanna have a go, Mateo?"
"Oh, cool! What happens if I wear it?" Mateo took it from Skye with a grin, holding it in his hands. He looked at it for a long minute before tossing it across the yard, it's smooth, unscratched surface shining against the suns glare. Maybe Skye would hit him for that, or it'll cast some amazing spell and magically return back to her.
"Ahh, looks like nothing happened. Disappointing. Oh well, someone else will pick it up!" Mateo shrugged and already noticed someone run after it. How convenient! He sat back onto the grassy field.
The damsel watched as it got passed around, arms crossed, grip growing tighter and face more irritated with each wasted attempt. This thing was getting annoying. Eventually she stormed up to the placed necklace, snatching it and throwing it around her neck. Guess she was going to take the risk.
A few seconds passed. Nothing happened. She just stood there, looking like quite the idiot.
And then it brightened in its light. Growls scratched out of the earth. The ground shook. Beings that looked all too similar to when she first gained the necklace emerged from dirt beneath. In a hurried state, she ripped it off. Yet they did not disappear. And instead, they attacked.
Prepare to fight! The same as always, she tore through monsters. Jumping up and using her magic to boost herself, given she couldn't fly. As she flipped upside down, she would slash through their neck. She wasn't without her injuries. Often stumbling and getting clawed in the process. Those talons would shortly get chopped off, of course.
In one hand, her sword, the other, the necklace. She would've thought taking it off would get rid of them. But they kept coming. Even more towards her. 6 approach, and her fighting arm is seeping with blood. As one came from her side, she was forced to toss the necklace, sending the monster back with a burst of wind from her hand. Her breaths came in ragged.
The necklace was caught by a certain Leafwing.
Kai jumped away from the corpse, hands soaked in blood. Had he always been this brutal? Swallow cuts lined his arm, results from the talons scrapping against his tough skin. Golden eyes scanned the battlefield, searching for the next creature to attack before spotting Skye.
Oh no.
Without a second thought, he charged towards the creatures approaching his best friend, knowing she could only last so long with the extent of her injuries. Battleaxe summoned, he slashed through one of the creatures, immediately attacking another as its screeching was torture to his ears.
Kai wasn't even checking to see if he fully killed the creatures, letting them fall and bleed out against the grass while blasting a huge gust of blue flames towards the rest of the group, hoping it'll help. After wearing the necklace, she ran to the battlefield with her sword on her right arm. When suddenly a group of monsters went to her, surrounding her. She slowly backed away trying to think of a plan. The necklace grew brighter, her insides feeling something different. "Stop. Back off.", she said without thinking, but to her surprise, the monsters stopped at her command. She stared at the sudden action, retracting her sword back while her hands remained low.
Unfortunately, not only the monsters stopped. So did the students. Not a single muscle.
They could not breath, either.
Students begin to go blue.A plant hanging from the trees glows orange. They cannot see that, though. They cannot move their eyes.
Seeing the other fairies not breathing. She immediately said, "Breath, except for YOU.", the you reffering to the monsters. It cannot be specified. All begin to breath.
