Today was a regular day. Skye sat in her chair, bouncing her leg and fiddling with a strand of her short hair, trying to figure out if she should try growing it out like she had when she was younger. There felt like there was something in the air, something she couldn't put her finger on. Might just be the feeling of spring. Hmm.. Long hair did look good on her when she was younger..
As the students entered the room, Mr. Liu stood in the front. His hands crossed and leaning against his desk. Waiting for them to all settle down, he hooked his finger onto a teacups handle and raised it to his lips. A gentle smile was stretched across his lips before setting the cup back onto a coaster with matching designs.
"Hello, I hope you're all doing well?" The teacher spoke with nothing but kindness and moved away from his desk. "Please prepare your cauldrons with haste. We'll be learning a new potion today so I expect you all to pay attention."Sighing, she let go of her hair. Great, a new potion. Her cauldron was decently prepared for use, so she didn't make an effort to do anything new. Today had been so wearisome. She picked at her nails, annoyed at their unevenness. Maybe she'd get them done for spring.
"Now that we're all ready, we'll be making a spell that requires some of your own magic or the help of another. Please start by adding four wind wyvern feather into your cauldrons and stir counterclockwise once," he instructed, his directions short and easy to understand. Picking up a piece of chalk, Mr. Liu wrote the instructions on a black board.Feathers.. She grabbed the feathers they had been given shortly before, dropping it into the bowl, and then stirring it once. Why were they stirring feathers? That was silly, but she barley knew anything about potion making, so she couldn't say.
Taking a look around, once Mr. Liu deemed everyone on track, he wrote the next instruction on the board. "Next, add 5 pinches of aspen ashes. Your cauldrons should still be stirring in the same direction. Continue to do so until it turns a dark shade of purple."
She grabbed the ashes, being careful-ish to do the right amount, when the lights began flickering. How annoying. Finishing adding the ingredients, she leaned back, stirring it again. It took a while before it turned purple.
"Once they turn purple, drop in one tsp of peppermint extract. No more, no less, as this is an important step." Mr. Liu watched as some seemed concerned about the lights. He had an ominous feeling about this but decided to ignore it. Maybe the school ran out of funds. Well, that scenario was very unlikely.Important.. Taking the peppermint extract, she carefully dropped it in. She had steady hands, so it was easy. The lights flickering was odd, considering the budget the school surely had, but it was whatever. It'd stop soon anyway. Well, that's what her mind thought. The pit in her gut seemed to disagree, for whatever reason.
8:57 am.
"Now, you'll need the manipulation of a wind fairy for the final step, turning the potion blue. I'll be walking around to do this step for you. Please raise your hand if you're on this step," Mr. Liu stated, his gaze darting around the room.
Tired, she raised her hand. What was this potion even gonna do? Well, they were going to find out soon.
Walking over to assist his students, Mr. Liu outstretched his arm. However, it seemed like his magic wasn't...working? How odd... "That's weird. Looks like my magic isn't working. Alright then! Wind fairies, please help others with this step and try to do it on your own as well."Furrowing her eyebrows, she raised a hand, flicking it towards her cauldron. Nothing as well. What in the world was going on?
9:08 amConfusion fills the air, students struggling to muster up their magic. How could this be? Was this a dream— no, a nightmare? The fairies are engulfed with this new mystery as they try and try to work on the potion. The teachers, too, are confused.
Something happens. Causing all of this commotion to end. Deafening silence seeps into all ears, as an explosion is heard from the distance. Quick to take action, some teachers go to look at what happened.
