A spark threatens to relight it.

The moon shone down over them, a warm glow from lava barley illuminating their shadowy silhouettes. They stole kisses with another, hands wrapped around each other. A secluded area in the lava lake, devoid of life except for the two fairies. Considering they were in the kingdom of Ignatius, you'd assume them to be of the fire race, sneaking out of their houses to meet up in a place within the nation.
If you took a look at them, you'd think yourself to be wrong. And you'd be so. Partially. A pale boy with dark blue to white ombre colored hair, almost like a thunder storm, was one of the fae, the shorter of the two. The other, a light haired and delicate seeming woman, soft eyes. These features alone made her seem like a wind fairy.. but the others made it seem like she wasn't. Deep tan skin and bright red clothing, tattoos on her wrists, even though she was a teenager.
Although she looked surely like a wind fairy, just one with darker skin than the rest and irresponsible parents, she was a fire fairy. Which made this encounter even more terrible, considering what had happened between the races recently. Considering the hatred between the two races.

Regardless, they were lovers. And that was a problem, a problem they needed to address. A today, the boy had decided to. They had gotten.. a bit off track, to put it appropriately. Pulling away one last time, he'd let go, taking a few steps back. His face felt hot, but he disregarded that, only just remembering what he had asked her to come here for. Or maybe that was just the magma resting nearby. "Ahem.. There's something I need to talk to you about. That's why I asked you to meet me here."
Furrowing her eyebrows, she would nod, pulling at the ends of her traditional fire robe. It was the middle of the night, so she didn't have time to change out of her nightgown in time, and she certainly didn't want to be late! Even though she had no idea what it was about. Now she was going to find out, at least.
"We can't.. We can't keep doing this." Definitely a shocker of a sentence after you were just kissing, which is why she responded with a gasp, clearly startled. Of course, they knew of the tension between their respective empires, which is why they always met in secret, but.. still!

"What do you mean?!" she demanded an answer from him, absolutely confused. The pure worry in her eyes made him reconsider his decision.. But there was nothing else he could do. There was no decision, it was the choice they had to make. A really, really difficult choice. Sighing, he pinched the bridge of his nose, deciding to tell her quickly and sharply. It was the best way to get it over with.
"We're wind and fire. My family.. My mothers are getting suspicious, I've gotten caught coming home late after meeting you. They think it's some random wind fairy woman I've met at school. But once they find out... They'll never let us be together. Hell, I don't even know what they'd do if they found out I've been seeing a fire fae, both to me and you." Moving his hand from his nose, he'd run his fingers through his hair as he rambled, the pain in his voice apparent.
She crossed her arms, looking to the side. She too was well aware of the tension.. too aware, as she had been the subject of it, even though she was a fire fairy. But she looked like one, acted like one, the other children had always bullied her for it. That.. gave her an idea. A really bad idea, but it could work.. Especially since her family was gone, and she was practically living paycheck to paycheck working at the coal factory, and what Neil could manage to give her. There was no one else to find out the truth, if she ended up doing this. "Then I'll become a wind fairy."

"What?" he exclaimed, partially from the absurdity and partially from the risk of the idea. Was she joking? She wasn't exactly the type to joke though. If she did do this, she'd never be able to use her magic. At least, not in public. And boy did he know how much she loved her magic. She loved magic, another trait that set her apart from the stereotypes of her kind and made her seem even more like the one she suggested pretending to be.
"Neil, you know what I experienced in elementary, middle, high school, and even now! I've always been seen as weak, I'm not as strong as the other fairies, sure I still have more strength than most fairies of other races because of it, but just barley! Look at my hair! It's basically white. And even my personality.. I'd be able to pass," she argued, lips pursed with determination. Neil was pretty much all she had; there was no way she could loose him.
"Sure, maybe you'd be able to pass now, but what about in the future!?"
      "Why would that change anything?!"
"Emilia, please, we're teenagers! Obviously your gonna change, you're probably gonna look more like a fire fairy as you age!" His voice began to raise a little, which he immediately regretting, wincing as he was reminded of his own home. She didn't notice, still running through the possibilities of the idea, and coming up with her response to his point.

"How? That doesn't even make sense! It's not as though my hair is suddenly going to turn red and I gain 20 pounds of muscle!" A spark lit nearby, bubbled from the lava, that seemed to be swelling. Odd. Though, the magma was always unpredictable. That's why people usually strayed away from this part of the kingdom.
"That's.. true.. But regardless, that's a big risk! If you get caught, who knows what would happen! I'm sure the royal family wouldn't take kindly to finding out a fire fairy was pretending to be a wind fairy, they'd probably think you were a spy or something! And, a—" he rambled, tone filled with worry.
"Neil!" she shouted, causing him to freeze. The damsel took his hands in hers, a determined look in her eyes. "Please, just let me do this. Plus.. It's been an idea for a while now." When she gave him that look, he always crumbled and gave in. And this instance was no different, even though he really, really wanted to resist this time. He probably would've been able to, if she hadn't yelled.

"Oh for fu..f-fine.." he spoke weakly, squeezing her hands back. "I don't get why you would ever want to do something like this.. But, I guess if you're gonna do it anyway, you might as well do it with me. And I'll make sure you won't get caught along the way, I promise." If there was one thing he was good at, it was planning. Or scheming, if you want to put it in less-than-nice terms.
