Mia arrived at Charlotte's early hours in the morning. Both girls were asleep but Charlotte couldn't close her eyes for a moment without hurting. She was curled up on the sofa when Mia had walked in.
"Sweetheart?" The brunette instantly jumped up and ran into the woman's warm embrace
"Mia" the red head pulled her in as close as possible, stroking her fingers through her long brunette hair.
"It's okay sweetheart, I'm here" Mia pulled her head back to get a better look of the woman. She lifted her head to face her with her hand, "you're okay sweetheart"
The two moved to the sofa and Charlotte filed her in properly on what had happened. Despite the pure anger Mia was feeling, she stayed calm and just listened as Charlotte talked.
"You need to rest Char. I promise I will sort this out tomorrow, okay? It's 4am and you still have work tomorrow" Mia reminded the woman.
"I can't sleep. Not when I know this is happening to my girls. He is doing this to them" Mia softly took charlottes hand to comfort her,
"And he won't get away with hurting them or you. I'll make sure of that. Now come on, sweetheart"
...
Mia gently laid Charlotte down in the bed before lying down next to her, pulling her as close as humanly possible.
"Everything's going to be okay, my sweet, sweet Charlotte" she soothed her.
With the comfort of Mia, it didn't take long before Charlotte drifted off to sleep. Allowing the other woman to think about which ways she could hurt Nathan the most.
...
"Mia?"a small whisper and a gentle hand grabbed the attention of the red head, he turns around to see who's hand was placed on her shoulder, opening her eyes slowly,
"Hey sweetheart" she whispered back at the 7 year old, "come here"
Isla climbed over the woman and planted herself between Charlotte and Mia. She turned to face Mia, playing with a section of her wine stained hair,
"Are you okay princess?"
"I had a bad dream. I'm scared" the girl whispered back,
"Don't worry, I'll protect you, Ellie and mummy, okay?"
"Okay" she nodded, "but..."
"What is it?" She could tell something else was troubling the girl
"Are you going to leave us like daddy did?"
Mia's heart shattered. How could someone possibly hurt a little girl like her. She's so innocent.
"You can't get rid of me now sweetheart. I'll always be here for you, okay?" She nodded once again and clutched her bunny before drifting off in Mia's arms, just like her mother did.
What Mia didn't know, is that Charlotte was awake. And despite the hurt and anger she felt, knowing Mia was there warmed her heart completely.
