The sunlight streamed in through the curtains, slowly waking Siya up. She grabbed her phone, still a little sleepy. A message from Abhimanyu popped up, and her heart raced as she opened it.
"Meet me at noon at our favorite dhaba. Let's have your favorite food and talk, love. – Abhi"
A big smile spread across Siya's face. She checked the time: 8 am. That gave her plenty of time to get ready for what felt like their first real date since they started dating. Feeling excited, she jumped out of bed, already thinking about what to wear and how to do her makeup.
She knew that today, Abhimanyu would apologize for what happened, and so would she for accusing him. They'd fix everything, be happy again, and enjoy each other's company. All she wanted when she woke up in the hospital was a kiss from him to make everything feel better. She longed for his touch, his kiss. But the misunderstandings had kept them apart, and today, she was determined to fix that.
She imagined how it would feel once they cleared everything up. She could almost feel his arms around her, his lips on hers, and the warmth of being close to him again. With that thought, she got up and started getting ready, humming happily as she got ready for the day.
When she went downstairs for breakfast, she found her mom, Purvi, sitting at the table with her face in her hands, looking worried. Siya rushed over to see what was wrong.
"Ma, what happened?" Siya asked, worried. Purvi looked up, trying not to smile. "The father-son duo decided to take over the kitchen and make us a special breakfast since it's Saturday." Siya's eyes lit up. "Really? That's so sweet!"
She was about to say more when she stepped into the kitchen and screamed. Purvi rushed in behind her, only to gasp in shock. The kitchen was a total mess. The pancake batter was splattered on the cooktop, blueberries were crushed all over the floor, broken eggs were scattered near the sink, and burnt pancakes were stuck to the pan. Rajveer and Virajas stood in the middle of the chaos, covered in flour and egg batter.
Purvi's smile quickly turned into frustration. "What on earth happened here?" she asked.
Rajveer shrugged, looking guilty. "I knew this was gonna happen, but Dad really wanted to make an English breakfast. I've never even tried it before because I don't eat eggs, and I can't even crack them properly."
Virajas, trying to defend their efforts, said, "Back in my prime, I was like a private chef for you, Purvi. I could make anything, but I'm just out of practice. I thought it'd come back to me."
Rajveer added, "And I said there's nothing I can't do, but turns out, we were both wrong."
Purvi shook her head, clearly frustrated. "You both go clean yourselves up while I handle this mess and order breakfast." But Siya, with a smile, said, "The mess should be cleaned by the ones who made it."
