Vacation in Hangover
Annie's presence was almost a staple at architectural events and parties. Her work and influence in the industry had made her a popular figure, and every month seemed to bring a new invitation. Despite her high tolerance for alcohol, the frequent celebrations had started to take their toll, leaving her feeling hungover more often than not.
Tonight, Annie was once again the guest of honor at a lavish party hosted by a prominent architectural firm. The evening was a blend of elegant designs, exquisite food, and an open bar that flowed freely. Annie, known for her ability to hold her liquor, mingled with colleagues, clients, and admirers, her laughter and conversation a constant hum throughout the event.
By the time the clock struck midnight, Annie had enjoyed a fair share of the offerings. She bid her farewells and, with a slightly unsteady step, made her way home. His driver dropped her home safe and sound.
As soon as she crossed the threshold of her apartment, fatigue overtook her. She barely managed to kick off her heels before collapsing onto her bed, passing out almost immediately.
The night was a deep, dreamless sleep, the kind that only comes after hours of socializing and celebration. Tomorrow, she knew, would bring the familiar throb of a hangover, but tonight, her only concern was the sweet oblivion of sleep.
The Next morning....
The room is dimly lit. The phone on the nightstand vibrates loudly, the screen showing "NATHAN CALLING." Annie, still in bed and looking disheveled, groggily reaches for the phone. The call is missed. Moments later, it vibrates again. On the 11th ring, she answers.
ANNIE
(sleepily)
Hello?NATHAN
(excitedly)
Annie, it's me, Nathan! Are you okay? Where are you? Today we're going to the island!ANNIE
(confused)
What? Is that today?NATHAN
(exasperated)
Yes, bitch! Hurry, we'll pick you up soon. This vacation plan was settled two months ago, remember?Annie sits up, suddenly alert, her hand on her forehead as she tries to shake off the remnants of last night.
ANNIE
(realizing)
Oh my God, Nathan, I completely forgot! Give me a few minutes.NATHAN
(teasingly)
You'd better, or we're leaving without you! Get your ass in gear, Annie!Annie chuckles, despite her pounding headache.
ANNIE
(smiling)
Alright, alright, I'm up. See you soon. She hangs up and quickly gets out of bed, rushing to get ready. The scene fades out as she hurries around the room, throwing clothes into a suitcase.
ANNIE'S APARTMENT - LATER
Nathan's car pulls up outside Annie's building. He and a few friends are in the car, music playing and everyone in high spirits. Annie rushes out of the building, suitcase in hand.
NATHAN
(yelling out the window)
There she is! Hurry up, girl!Annie throws her suitcase in the trunk and hops into the car, greeted by cheers and laughter from her friends.
Annie's morning was a whirlwind of frantic packing and trying to shake off the remnants of last night's indulgence. She managed to gather her things and rushed out to meet Nathan and the rest of the group, who were already waiting in the car.
"Hey, guys," Annie said, trying to sound more enthusiastic than she felt. "Just wake me up when we get to the airport, okay?"
Nathan turned around from the front seat, concern etched on his face. "You okay, Annie?"
