I'm Sorry

A/N Major angst. Not a happy ending. Major character death. I'm sorry. I guess I felt like making myself cry. 😭

Green eyes, the lakes in them were still while my heart raced in my chest. "Deku," I whispered but he didn't respond, he didn't move and the light in his eyes slowly faded, his last words still ringing in my head. "I love you, you were always my hero," he had tried to say something else but he couldn't take another breath so I was left with only that. The rain poured down but I didn't move. His head in my arms, his eyes still looking into mine, empty as they were, they were still looking at me.

"Bro, is he?" Kirishima tried to ask, he tried to be the strong one of our old class but it didn't matter. Not now. The years had been long and we weren't young anymore, we haven't been in a long time.

I didn't answer him, instead I just held Deku in my arms and closed my eyes. Huh, somehow I still feel dry. I don't look around though, Kirishima is probably holding an umbrella or something. He can do what he wants.

I opened my eyes but the rain was coming down hard, I couldn't even see what was in front of me clearly but I guess that doesn't matter either.

"Bro," Kirishima sounds so scared but I don't understand why. I already blew up Deku's attacker, I made sure that they would never see another victim and Deku? Sweet innocent Deku, was just happy they wouldn't hurt anyone else.

"You were always my hero," the words repeated but I don't deserve those words. "I love you," why won't his voice stop? Why won't his lips move again? Why can't I feel him hold my hand anymore?

"Young Bakugo, I'll take him now," I looked up to see All Might, old and wrinkled but alive. How? We went to his funeral. Deku and I carried his casket for fucks sake so how? I looked down and it's only now that I noticed the pipe sticking through my chest. I don't think it went all the way through so of course no one behind me would have noticed it yet.

"Am I going too?" I asked him and he gave me a sad smile.

"I'll stay with you. We will stay with you," he answered and I nodded, already understanding. I felt my body going numb and it's only now that I notice how dry everything is. Oh, it's not raining at all then how-. Right, of course. I'm crying. Sometimes I can be such an idiot too.

"Bro we need to get you checked. You're the last one," Kirishima came back to try again and I couldn't help giggling a little.

I looked up and turned my head to face him. "You were a good friend Kirishima. The manliest of them all," I gave him a small smile but I felt another tear slip down my face. They don't even feel hot anymore.

"You're crying!" He started to panic but I just shook my head and looked back at All Might, already knowing that no one else could see him. Already knowing why I could.

Kirishima finally walked around and I heard his gasp when he saw it. I'm going to die and there wasn't anything that anyone else could do about it.

"But bro, you're the number one hero. You can't just... You can't just leave us. You can't leave me!" He started screaming, getting other people's attention but I just smiled at him in return.

"When you find a hero that's worth replacing me, you can give him our place," my eyes returned to Deku's lifeless body but only for a moment. I looked back at All Might just in time for there to be a flash of green next to him and this time I smiled for real.

"Deku," I whispered and he smiled before holding out his hand and this time I didn't think twice about taking it. "I'm sorry," I tried to say but he just shook his head and smiled. I followed him into a bright golden light just to laugh and play heroes again, like we should have done in the first place.

End.
