A/N Happy Birthday Bakugo. 🥰💃🏻

The mission was supposed to be easy; find the girl, make sure she was okay, and go home without anyone noticing. So how exactly did I end up in the room with her “boss”? Because I asked. I wasn't really given a choice.

“The famous hero Deku, tell me what do I owe the pleasure of you looking for me?” The woman with the snake-like features hissed pleasingly, I don't understand why but her voice is soothing, it's probably a part of her quirk, almost hypnotic in nature. I'll put that information away for later.

“I'm looking for someone, and I'm told you're the one that can find him,” I answered, my voice is raw but it's also been a rough week. The fact that I'm losing my voice though seemed to have caught her attention. I can only guess how I look right now but I don't care how much of a mess I am. Not now. Not ever.

“Heroes don't usually come to me,” she put her cigarette stick thing down, puffing out the smoke. What are those things called?

“You're not a villain and I need to find him,” I answered and let my head drop, her right hand employee was exactly the girl I was supposed to be looking for but if I'm honest I don't care. She isn't hurt and from what I can see she is doing well, standing next to the woman completely composed. I don't know if she recognized me or not but I didn't need to make contact so that doesn't matter.

“Most heroes don't see it that way,” the woman leaned against the table, a smile on her face. “Who are you looking for so desperately? Are you aware of the cost?”

I nod, “Kacchan, the pro hero Dynamight, everyone keeps saying he died but I saw him. I swear I saw him! Ali-ve,” my voice broke and the woman sat up, startled by my honesty. “He has to be alive.” The words whispered from my lips as more tears spilled down. I don't care what the cost is. I have money, I've been the number five hero for the last four years and I don't spend much as it is. Being a hero was always my dream, not the lavish lifestyle so my money was just kind of put to the side, most was invested so I probably actually earn more than most of the top heroes as it is. I can easily use it for this. Over and over again.

She put the cigarette stick thing down again and focused on me for a minute before saying, “you're in love with the number one hero?” She didn't sound surprised but her words suggested it. My face dropped while my heart raced in my chest. I can't lie, that fact was written in bold on her file. She will disappear if she thinks she's being lied to and I can't risk her leaving, not now. I nodded my head, my arms hugging myself while I tried to hold myself together.

“He is my everything,” I finally croaked and I saw the girl next to her flinch back. “Not that I mean anything to him but I can't help it.”

She stared for a long time but I don't know what she was thinking. “He's not missing,” she said slowly, her voice careful but I shook my head.

“The body they brought back isn't his, I don't know how to explain it but it's not his. It can't be his. It's not right,” I could feel myself shaking, trying to hold myself together but it was only getting more difficult as time passed. The woman stood up just as my knees gave out. She looked startled but she came to me anyway.

“The cost is a memory, for you it'll be a painful one, you won't be able to choose which one it is. You'll forget it ever happened,” she warned, she said a lot of things but I just nodded in agreement before she reached down and touched my face. Images of Kacchan racing through my mind, his voice filling my ears until I saw his sparkling red eyes looking back at me surprised.

I'm standing in the middle of nowhere while Kacchan is propped up against a tree, blood soaking his side while he tries to apply pressure.

“Deku, what in the fuck are you doing here?” He huffed but I jumped forward, picking him up. He is pale, dangerously so. His face was sunk in and if I had to guess he had been stuck here since his “body” turned up in Tokyo.
