Chapter 3
Aric POV
Waking up in bed, I noticed that Aiden and I were cuddled up together. It was a rare moment of peace, our anger set aside in the comfort of sleep. I was about to drift back to sleep when I saw Mom standing in our doorway, a gentle smile on her face.
She walked closer, her steps soft and careful not to wake Aiden. "I'm happy you both made it up," she said softly, her voice filled with warmth and affection.
I rubbed my eyes, still groggy. "Morning, Mom."
She sat on the edge of the bed, brushing a lock of hair from my forehead. "You two are always stronger together, you know that?"
I nodded, feeling the truth of her words.
"How did you sleep?" she asked, her eyes full of concern."Good," I replied, glancing at Aiden who was still peacefully asleep. "We both did."
"Good," she repeated, a look of relief crossing her face. "I need y'all to get ready for school. Your dad left early this morning to deal with business."
Mom gently pushed Aiden to wake up. "Come on, sweetheart, time to get up."
Aiden groaned, shifting under the covers before slowly opening his eyes. "Morning, Mom," he mumbled, still half-asleep.
"Morning, Aiden," she said with a soft smile. "Time to get ready for school."
I sat up, stretching and yawning. "What kind of business?" I asked, curiosity getting the better of me.
"Pack business," Mom replied, her tone gentle but firm. "Nothing for you to worry about right now."
Aiden finally sat up, rubbing his eyes. "Alright, we're up," he said, his voice a little more awake.
"Good," Mom said, standing up and heading towards the door. "Breakfast is ready downstairs. Don't take too long."
As she left the room, Aiden and I exchanged a glance. The usual morning rush was about to begin. We got out of bed, moving through our routine with the practiced ease of siblings who had done this countless times before.
"Another day, another dollar," Aiden muttered, pulling on his clothes.
"Actually," I said, throwing the same set of clothes at him. "Let's try and have some fun today." I grinned mischievously.
"Bet," Aiden said, taking the clothes from my hands and putting on the same outfit I was wearing.
We made our way downstairs, the smell of breakfast guiding us to the kitchen. Aura and Alex were already at the table, chatting animatedly while they ate. Uncle Sam and Russel stood by the door, guarding Mom and us while Dad was away.
"Morning," Aura greeted us with a bright smile.
"Morning," we echoed, sitting down to join them.
As we ate, the conversation flowed easily. I turned around, facing Russel. Our eyes made contact, and I couldn't resist. "Who am I?" I asked with a mischievous grin.
"Yeah, who am I?" Aiden joined in, echoing my tone.
Russel, who tried to ignore us, glanced between the two of us with a slightly exasperated look. We both knew he couldn't tell us apart when we dressed identically.
"Seriously, guys?" Russel sighed, shaking his head. "Every time..."
We laughed, enjoying the lighthearted moment. It was these little pranks and games that made our mornings more bearable.
"You'll figure it out one day, Russel," Aiden teased, taking another bite of his breakfast.
"Or maybe not," I added with a wink.
