Chapter 11

Aric POV

The sounds of someone pounding on my door woke me from my sleep. Groggily, I looked at the window to see it was still dark outside.

My shorts hung loosely on my hips as I walked over to the door and opened it, revealing a very hurt Sophia who had been crying.

Her tears started to well up in her eyes as she locked eyes with me. "You know what!" she said, pointing a finger at me. "You're an asshole!"

I blinked, still trying to fully wake up and process what was happening. "Sophia, what's going on? Why are you here?"

"You ignored me!" she cried, her voice trembling with emotion. "I've been trying to reach you for days, and you just disappeared. You didn't even give me a explanation on why you didn't want to see me!"

I sighed, running a hand through my hair. "Sophia, I saw you with another guy. You were laughing and having a great time while I was here, trying to forget you."

"Wait, what guy?" she yelled, frustration evident in her voice.

I rubbed my temples, trying to keep my own frustration in check. "The guy I saw you with the other day. You were laughing and had his arm around you. It looked pretty cozy to me."

She blinked in confusion, then her eyes widened in realization. "Oh my God, Aric. That was my brother, Ryan!"

I felt a pang of guilt wash over me. "Your brother?" I echoed, feeling like an idiot. "Sophia, I... I had no idea."

"Of course you didn't," she said, exasperated. "Because you didn't ask! You just assumed the worst and shut me out."

I sighed, feeling the weight of my mistake. "You're right. I should have talked to you instead of jumping to conclusions. I'm sorry."

Her expression softened slightly, though the hurt was still clear in her eyes. "I was so confused and hurt when you disappeared, Aric. I thought we had something special, and then you were just... gone."

"I thought the same thing," I admitted, looking down at the floor. "But seeing you with him, I let my jealousy get the better of me. I should have trusted you."

Sophia took a deep breath, then moved closer, placing a hand on my arm. "I came here tonight because I care about you, Aric. I didn't want things to end like this. I wanted to at least try to make things right."

I met her gaze, feeling a mix of relief and remorse. "I care about you too, Sophia. I don't want things to end like this either. But I leave today! I can't take you back with me."

Her face fell, the hope in her eyes dimming. "I know," she said softly. "I knew you were only here for a short time. But I hoped we could figure something out."

I sighed, running a hand through my hair. "My life is complicated, Sophia. I have responsibilities back home, and I can't just uproot everything."

She nodded, tears welling up in her eyes again. "I understand. I just... I wish things were different."

"Me too," I said, feeling the weight of our situation pressing down on me. Without a second thought, I grabbed her arm and pulled her into my chest, closing the door behind me.

I brushed the tears off her face, my touch gentle. "Sophia, I don't want to leave things like this."

She looked up at me, her eyes filled with pain and longing. "I don't either, Aric. But what can we do?"

"We can do this," I said before leaning down and kissing her passionately. Our emotions spoke louder than words as we explored each other, pouring all our feelings into that kiss.
