Chapter 30
Aric POV
It's been weeks since Aiden found his mate, Lila. Aiden and I decided that he should return home and lead the pack while I continued my search for my Luna. The decision wasn't easy, but it felt right. Aiden was meant to be with Lila, and our pack needed one of us back, since Aiden got what he was looking for. While I continued to find my mate.
I've traveled from pack to pack, each visit draining me a little more. Exhaustion clung to me like a second skin. My wolf, always restless, seemed to grow more agitated with every passing day. We were both longing for the same thing, the same person who would complete us.
Every new pack brought hope and disappointment in equal measure. The hope that I might find her, my Luna, someone who would understand me and the weight of the responsibilities I carried. But with each introduction, each greeting, that hope dimmed a little more.
I found myself in the heart of yet another unfamiliar territory, greeted by another Alpha and his welcoming pack members. Their kindness was genuine, but it only served to remind me of what I was missing. I stayed polite, maintained the facade of the strong, confident Alpha, but inside, I was a storm of frustration and longing.
The nights were the hardest. Alone in unfamiliar rooms, I lay awake, my thoughts a tangled mess of what-ifs and maybes. What if I never found her? What if I was destined to wander forever, always searching and never finding? The loneliness crept in during those quiet hours, gnawing at the edges of my resolve.
But giving up was never an option. I would find her. I had to. For myself, for my pack, for the future that seemed so uncertain yet so tantalizingly close.
As the sun rose on another day, I pushed the weariness aside and prepared to face another pack, another set of faces. Somewhere out there, she was waiting for me. And I would keep searching until I found her, no matter how long it took.
The unfamiliar pack territories stretched out before me, a labyrinth of trees and undergrowth. I welcomed the challenge. The morning air was cool against my fur, and the chirping of insects provided a rhythmic soundtrack to my run. I pushed myself harder, each paw hitting the ground with determination.
As I navigated the terrain, the scent of another wolf reached me. A pack member, clearly sizing me up, emerged from the trees. His eyes gleamed with a silent challenge: a race.
I recognized the look. He thought he had the advantage, knowing this land better than I ever could. But what he didn't know was that I was a twin. Challenges were in my blood, and I thrived on competition.
We took off, paws pounding the earth in a blur of motion. The wolf was fast, his movements fluid and confident. He weaved through the trees with ease, familiar with every twist and turn. But I matched his pace, drawing on every ounce of strength and endurance I had honed over years of relentless training.
My mind cleared as I focused solely on the race, the thrill of competition driving me forward. The terrain was rough, but I adapted quickly, letting instinct guide me. The wolf beside me glanced over, surprise flickering in his eyes as he realized I was keeping up, even gaining ground.
The forest opened up into a clearing, and I surged ahead, pushing myself to the limit. With a final burst of speed, I crossed the invisible finish line first, skidding to a stop in the open space. My chest heaved, but a triumphant grin spread across my face.
The other wolf slowed to a halt beside me, panting heavily. His eyes were wide with a mix of respect and disbelief. I shifted back to my human form, and he did the same, both of us catching our breath.
"You're fast," he admitted, his tone grudgingly respectful.
I nodded, a small smile playing on my lips. "I've had practice."
