Chapter 28

Aric POV

The next morning, as the first light of dawn filtered through the curtains of our hotel suite, Aiden and I stirred from our sleep.

We got dressed in comfortable athletic wear, ready for a morning run to clear our minds and prepare for the day ahead. The crisp air of the early morning would do us good, and the familiar rhythm of running would help center our thoughts.

"Ready to hit the road?" Aiden asked, lacing up his shoes.

"Always," I replied, tightening my own laces.

We stepped out of our suite, the quiet hallway amplifying the sound of our footsteps. The hotel was still mostly asleep, with only a few early risers and staff moving about. The city outside was just waking up, the streets quiet and the air cool.

As we started our run, the city began to come alive around us. The rhythmic pounding of our feet on the pavement was grounding, a steady beat that matched our synchronized breathing. We ran side by side, our usual competitive banter replaced by a comfortable silence.

The route took us through a nearby park, the morning dew glistening on the grass and the first rays of sunlight breaking through the trees. The scenery was a welcome change from the forested landscape of our pack's territory, and it gave us a fresh perspective.

As we pushed ourselves, the endorphins kicked in, clearing the last remnants of sleep and sharpening our focus.

After a solid run, we slowed to a walk, our breath coming in heavy but controlled gasps. We found a bench near a small pond, the water reflecting the morning light in a dazzling display.

Aiden took a deep breath, looking out over the water. "I have a club in mind that we are going to tonight. But it's a fancy club." His eyes sparkled with mischief.

I raised an eyebrow, intrigued by his sudden enthusiasm. "A fancy club, huh? You sure we're ready for that kind of scene?"

Aiden grinned, his playful mood infectious. "Come on, Aric. We've been all business lately. We need to unwind a bit, and who knows? We might even run into someone interesting."

I laughed, shaking my head. "Alright, fine. But if we're going fancy, we need to look the part."

"Don't worry," Aiden replied, still grinning. "I already took care of that. I had some suits delivered to the hotel. Figured we'd need them eventually."

"Always a step ahead," I said, impressed by his foresight. "Alright then, fancy club it is. But we stick together and stay sharp. We're still on a mission."

"Agreed," Aiden said, his expression turning serious for a moment. "We'll have fun, but we won't lose sight of why we're here."

With our plan for the evening set, we finished our morning run and headed back to the hotel. The anticipation of the night added an extra layer of excitement to our preparations. We had a mission, but that didn't mean we couldn't enjoy ourselves along the way.

As the day progressed, we took care of some necessary errands, ensuring we were ready for the next steps of our journey. We checked in with the pack via our mind link, reassured by their updates and the knowledge that everything was running smoothly in our absence.

Later, as the sun began to set, we returned to our suite to get ready for the night out. The suits Aiden had arranged were laid out on the bed, each perfectly tailored to our measurements.

"You weren't kidding about fancy," I said, admiring the craftsmanship of the suit.

Aiden laughed. "Told you. Now, let's get dressed and make an impression."
