Chapter 17

Aric POV

Inside, the place was nearly deserted, with only a few staff members lingering as they finished their cleanup. I scanned the room, narrowing my eyes as I searched for Sophia. Finally, I spotted her near the back, talking to another staff member.

"Sophia!" I called out, my voice cutting through the quiet of the room.

She turned, surprise and a hint of fear crossing her face as she saw us approaching. She excused herself from her conversation and walked over to us, her expression guarded.

"Aric, what are you doing here?" she asked, glancing nervously between the two of us.

I took a deep breath, trying to keep my emotions in check. "We need to talk, Sophia. About earlier tonight."

Her eyes flickered to me, then back to Aiden. "I'm sorry, I thought he was you. I didn't mean to cause any trouble."

I looked at Aiden darkly, causing him to shift uncomfortably. "You need to apologize for pretending to be me."

Aiden sighed, looking genuinely remorseful. "I'm sorry, Sophia. I didn't mean to deceive you. It was a stupid mistake."

Sophia nodded, still looking wary. "I appreciate the apology, but why did you do it?"

I took Sophia's soft hand and pulled her into the hallway. I pushed open a door and we stepped into what looked like an office.

"I... I... can't be in here," she said, stumbling over her words and looking around nervously.

I locked the door with a click. "You're with me. No one will say anything."

"You don't know that. I'm supposed to be working here tonight," she whispered.

"Why are you working here?" I asked

She sighed, glancing around the room. "Yes, I work in fashion, but sometimes it doesn't always pay the bills. So I took an odd job." She motioned around her, a hint of frustration in her voice. "This is one of those jobs."

I nodded, understanding her situation. "How much money do you need?" I asked, walking closer to her. Her back hit the wall, and I could see her start to breathe heavily.

"Aric, this isn't about money," she whispered, her eyes wide.

"But if it helps, I want to help you," I said, my voice gentle but firm. "You shouldn't have to struggle."

She shook her head, a tear slipping down her cheek. "It's not just about the money. It's about me trying to be independent, to make my own way."

I reached out, wiping the tear from her cheek. "I understand that. And I respect it. But you don't have to do it alone. Let me help you."

She looked into my eyes, searching for sincerity. "Why are you doing this, Aric? Why do you care so much?"

"Because I care about you, Sophia," I admitted, my heart pounding. "You mean a lot to me, and I want to see you succeed." Without another word, I pulled her chin up to meet my eyes and leaned in to kiss her.

I moaned softly as her lips touched mine, slipping my tongue into her mouth. She tasted so sweet. I wrapped my hand around her neck, deepening the kiss.

She moaned into me, melting under my touch. Everything that had been pent up from not seeing each other for so long seemed to pour out in that moment. The intensity of our connection was overwhelming, and I felt like I was drowning in her.

Our bodies pressed closer together, the heat between us growing. Her hands gripped my shoulders, pulling me even closer as our kiss grew more passionate. I could feel her heartbeat racing against my chest, matching the rapid beat of my own heart.
