Chapter 31

Aiden POV

It had been a couple of weeks since we returned home, and life had settled into a comfortable rhythm. Lila and I were staying in my parents' house, sleeping in the guest bedroom. Despite the happiness of being with Lila, I couldn't shake a slight worry about Aric not finding his mate yet.

As I lay in bed, holding Lila close, her small, petite frame fitting perfectly against mine, I watched the early morning light filtering softly through the curtains.

I gently shook Lila, whispering, "Lila, wake up."

She stirred slightly but then snuggled deeper into my chest, causing me to chuckle softly. She mumbled something incoherent and buried her face into my neck, making it clear she wasn't ready to wake up yet.

I sighed, feeling her warmth and the steady rhythm of her breathing against me. Giving in, I decided to let her sleep a little longer. Holding her close, I closed my eyes again, savoring the quiet moments before the day truly began.

The weeks had been good to us. Lila was blossoming, her wild spirit thriving in the freedom and love she now had. Each day brought new experiences and a deeper bond between us. But as happy as I was, I couldn't help but think about Aric. It had been weeks, and he still hadn't found his mate. I knew he felt the weight of it, and it worried me.

Still, today was about Lila. I had something special planned.

I gently kissed the top of her head, whispering, "Just a little longer, my love. Then we'll start our day."

She sighed contentedly in her sleep, and I smiled, feeling a profound sense of peace.

After a few more minutes of rest, I decided it was time to finally get Lila up. I gently made her sit up in bed, her curly hair all over the place, a sleepy look on her face as she glanced towards the window where the morning light was beginning to creep in.

She let out a small groan and tried to crawl back under the covers. "Oh no, you don't," I said with a chuckle, grabbing her ankles and gently pulling her off the bed. She squeaked in surprise, trying to hold on to the sheets, but my strength was unmatched.

"Aiden!" she laughed, half protesting and half enjoying the playful moment. "Let me sleep a little longer!"

"Nope," I said, still smiling. "We've got plans for today, and you're not missing them."

Lila gave up trying to resist and instead let herself be pulled off the bed, landing softly on the carpeted floor. She looked up at me with a mock pout, but her eyes were sparkling with amusement. "Fine, you win."

I reached down and helped her up, brushing a few strands of hair away from her face. "Good morning, beautiful."

She stretched and yawned, then wrapped her arms around my waist. "Good morning, Aiden. What's so important that you had to drag me out of bed?"

"You'll see," I replied mysteriously, kissing her forehead. "Trust me, it's worth it."

She sighed dramatically but gathered her things and went into the bathroom to take a shower. While she was getting ready, I changed into my combat uniform—camo cargo pants with plenty of pockets, a black T-Shirt, and sturdy brown boots. I placed her uniform on the bed, making sure everything was neatly laid out for her.

I couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation for the day ahead.

A few minutes later, Lila emerged from the bathroom, her hair damp and her cheeks flushed from the warm shower. She spotted her uniform on the bed and looked at me with curiosity.
